Need help in removing proton pack from 6 in Mattel Ghostbuster. Making custom cake toppers and need one for the young lady. Let me know if anyone has tricks or an easy way to remove it from the figure.
It may not be the easiest thing to do…They are held in place by and adhesive. The Ghostbuster’s back has a cavity (in the shape of the state of GA upside down) that the pack is pressed into as well. I THINK the Capt & Mereel just carefully cut through the connection and used putty to smooth out the back of the pack and the Ghostbuster.
The search told me that you can stick a large, flat blade screwdriver between the figure and pack, pry gently, and it should pop right off.
Worked OK for me. ![]()
Ditto! Same here ![]()
I used the nail claw of a hammer. Just stick it between the pack and the fig, then snap it off.
Hey Guys!
The real answer is all of the above. This is what you will be fighting with.
If you do not need the registration keys to fit them back together, a modeler’s Razor Saw would be the ticket. Start from the top and work your way down to just above the bottom bracket on the Alice Frame. If you don’t care about the bracket, keep cutting. If you want it intact, bend the remaining plastic ■■■■■■ back and forth untill it breaks off.
If you need to keep the registration keys, then it’s the wide flat Screwdriver method, Small Screwdrivers are not good as they tend to Bend and rip through the Mother Board.
I prefer to tuck the figure in the Freezer for an hour or so and then dip it into boiling hot water just enough to submerge the figure but not the Proton Pack. I do this 2 times. With luck, the contraction and expansion of the plastic will break the glue bond and the Pack will come off with no damage. Doesn’t work every time, but when it does, it’s a beautiful thing. If that doesn’t work, there’s always the Claw Hammer. ![]()
The screw driver worked great. Thanks guys for the quick responses! Cake topper gets an upgrade!
