BlkMesa's Belt Fob Project

It depends on the belt/fob. The fobs were made out of different materials. For instance, the larger D-Ring fobs are made from both standard nylon webbing and seat belt material. Same goes for the adjustable ■■■■■■■■ the belt itself. Some had nylon webbing, some had seatbelt. It’s pretty obvious to me that they had a bunch of scrap strapping laying around and they threw them together out of whatever. The V Hook fobs are very likely made out of both 1 3/4’’ AND 2’’ webbing.

My personal preference on these would be to have it fit well inside the ring and not bunch up on the sides. I always place looking sharp higher than screen accuracy.

Agreed!

OK folks an update.

I just got the V Rings in from Para-Gear. NO pics, sorry. And I have promptly sent them off to TT(Tactical Tailor). I included a black pistol belt so their Custom Shop can get the right length. I have also asked them to make there of the five in different width webbing; 1 1/2", 1 3/4", and 2" inches. This way we can all see how they come out. I will post updates as I get them.

UPDATE

Ok folks, I have located a site with a larger inventory and better prices for all items. Here’s the link.

http://www.dj-associates.com/products.html

The Items I have been looking are

RR 3 ga x 1-3/4" Welded Round Rings, Nickel Plate ---- O Ring 1 3/4"

3250 5 ga x 1-1/8" Dee Ring , Welded, Nickel Plate ---- Small D Ring 1 1/8"

3250 2 ga x 1-3/4" Dee Ring, Welded, Nickel Plate ---- Large D Ring 1 3/4"

MS22045-1 ----- and The V Ring 1 3/4"

Enjoy

The webbing is 1.5" wide. Dividing the pixel width of the webbing by the pixel height of the belt and multiplying that by the 2.25" width of the pistol belt tells you how wide it is. There’s a little room for error, but the result was so close to 1.5" that I don’t think it could possibly be 1.75" wide.

Well, the belts they wore in GB2 were custom made and 3" wide, not 2.25".

Two holed, custom made belts. Finding that webbing not in mass rolls is very difficult - I speak from experience. It also had seatbelt fabric on it.

Hm… I thought they might be custom made because they looked way too smooth to be nylon webbing or the cotton material used on the white belts, but since they seemed to fit the trap pedal hook which was also used in the first film, I figured they must be the same size. However, looking at the hook from the first film and the one from the second, the one from the second is clearly different and made better. So I guess that is a poor size reference.

Well, if they’re 3" wide, then my calculations say 2.08". So 2" webbing it is then.

Unless it’s not webbing at all, in which case the width could be anything.

Ron:

What had seatbelt fabric on it? The triangle ring, or the whole belt?

The belt itself. One of the fob holders was made from the same seatbelt fabric.

You can see specifically in the pictures of the suit at Sony, that the portion of the belt with the clasp has about 4-6 inches of seatbelt fabric. This is the portion used to adjust the size of the belts. They also have some grey backing material to make the belts “stiffer.”

The belt at Sony is light gray and has silver eyelets though. I find it hard to beleive the original belts lightened that much in color and the eyelets lost all their paint. Also the Sony belt doesn’t look at all like seatbelt fabric. It’s just sewn at the edges.

That’s the back of it.

Where can you see the front then? I’m looking around the clasp but the reference photos I have are too low res to see what’s peeking out from behind it.

Theres a few good photos in a thread around here somewhere, I’ll try to find them.

3’’ Black Webbing in front, 3’’ gray webbing in back. Silver eyelets painted black. 2’’ seatbelt material or 2’’ webbing for the adjustable strap, depending on the belt.

All of the large fobs use 2’’ material for the most part. Some odd ball ones used some a little smaller.

Well guys remember, this is still prototype phase. I have been made aware of the width issue yesterday by The Roach On Twelve.

I have sent instruction to Tactical Tailor to have three of the five prototypes made to fit the 3" web belts and the rest for the 2.25"web belts.

Do you guys think I have selected the correct size rings? It’s is important to get the size of the rings because once prototyping has past, accuracy will count.

Honestly, the smaller belts are more widely available, and unless you absolutely want to nail accuracy down there is no need to have the belt custom made.

Supplies for both 3" web belts and the 2.25"web belts will be accounted for in the coming weeks.
