Bought this kit off of ebay

Well I looked at the pictures of that pack kit and personally - it’s the worst kit I’ve ever seen. Almost everything on there is made wrong or is choppy work. The power cell, injectors, booster frame and the box it’s connected to, and the gun box is the worst hands down. The crank box too. Also all of the trim pieces/fins are made wrong. There are either too many, or not enough.

Whoever made that obviously didn’t care for accuracy. I’d recommend - buy a Studio Creations pack. The price is lower and is made a lot nicer. Also it’s more accurate, tremendously more compared to that pack kit. To put it simple, you’re going to be disappointed once you get that kit and start working on it. And buying the vacuum-formed shell from Studio Creations will make you a lot more satisfied. All in all it’s up to you, still though we urge you to go a different route.

The SC vac-form packs look a lot better then they use to and I believe they cost less then that one. I wouldnt pay for that thing on eBay, it will cost way too much in order to fix it.

The shell is $65, http://www.studiocreations.com/howto/gb_protonpack/index.html.

Heed our words…buy this…

And as for a good gun kit, get one from MMM, or TC

I have a MMM kit, and love it. They have gotten better since i last bought mine.

alright kids. here’s the original post, which im going to bold important points you all seemed to ignore. important things are usually ignored by a great deal of you anyway, so you dont have to check up to the top for the main idea, i went ahead and covered it for you.

oh wait. the actual intention was to mod it? someone buy a pack on ebay with the intention to actually owrk on it rather than put someone’s expensive guts into it, paint a few coats on it, and make a build post about it because they dont understand the concept of a “BUILD” vs a “MODEL KIT”.

i have a blade runner gun resin kit i just got. im not going to put up how im putting it together, because its not a build. its like going to walmart, and buying a mustang model kit and putting up pics of it being put together. who the ■■■■ cares. if i were making a blade runner gun using the guns, or airsoft replicas to make that replicant killer, that would be a build. that would be something to show. not the same ■■■■■■■ kit from the same 4 people.

i am by no means a prop snob. i watch build threads where there is actual construction going on, i favor custom packs like brad boss’s, ive made my own custom gb props, i look at other projects that arent JUST GHOSTBUSTERS people are working on. i found that people that purchase shells have no idea the actual work put into an innaccurately made pack, vs people that built their own. when i make packs for my friends i intentionally do not finish them and they work on their pack beside me, because they will have to finish them and when they do, the sense of accomplishment and proud feeling in their gut for putting that much work and effort into a pack vs dropping money into something thats insert tab a into slot b is more satisfying.

i am a snob when it comes to shell packs, shell build threads, and most shell owners. i built 7 packs. for far less than half it cost to put together one shell. and i paid my dues. congratulations, you bought an expensive model kit.

ZING!

there’s alot of points i want to make to yours. garee, so here i go. cjay’s been around a while. this isnt his first time at the rodeo. while it may be his first foray into a pack, i doubt it was his first hand at prop making of any sort.

i saw your pack in person, and i was bragging about how you made them to my friend who was new to the whole costume event comic convention thing. ive also taken a few of your ideas and jotted them down some where. i know youre not a prop snob and are willing to help those who need it.

i think this needs specific attention. my attitude in this topic was far from gloomy gus. yes, i whatever an otoh is, chose to wear my comedian costume, for many reasons i will share(though i feel like i am trying to whats the word im looking for, justify myself though i shouldnt have to?) 1 very important one, being it was my buddy’s first con, and he was ozymandias. we were characters from the watchmen with intention to enter the costume contest, 100 applications are given first come first serve. we went friday to get them, in our costumes. saturday, was the contest. 2, i dont like a very large portion of the florida ghostbsuters. i dont know if you noticed, but orlando’s franchise is a bunch of tourists. i made an effort to meet people i know, and people that arent mutton heads. i was a few tables from you, knew it was you, wanted to meet you, but wasnt sure if i should say hey, because i wasnt in ghostbusters garb, and didnt think you’d know what the comedian from watchmen was(i told several anime kids i was spiderman, or a spiderman villain mysterio just to ■■■■ with them), let alone if you were a fan of good old pc.

i live in orlando, and megacon happens every year, ive been to so many as a ghostbuster i cant remember how many of them ive been to, when zero of those people you met were at. its not my number one costume. i have several. while i am no gary potter, my costumes have some well thought out work and time put into them. there isnt a quantity/quality deal with me.

i have a hard time supporting the fan base when there’s alot of people in it that dont make it fun for me. thats why i didnt do any of the meet ups, those people outside of the ones i made an effort to meet(and those few i regret not crossing paths with), dont make it any fun for me. i also ignore the usual “if you dont like it get out” i have enough friends in this community that have value that only post here, to leave them over insignificant people wouldnt be a very wise decision. my life isnt ghostbusters. those two statements would make sense to them.

this is important, and why i sort of back recasters. whatever you choose to spend your money on is your own business. and there’s nothing anyone here can do to stop you from doing it. i think its counterproductive to charge you for the use of your paid for buck, but what do i know? im just an ■■■■■■■. if someone buys a half worked on proton pack with intentions to modify it into a more accurate pack then thats his business, you all say “awesome job.” but you dont even have to do that. but to make comments on how innaccurate it was, and how you can get the same for cheaper here(which is bullshit, the cheapest shell here is what? 200+), was wrong, and it was showing prop snobbity.

why didnt anyone before TY and poopooing me argue the studio creations pack was 90?

huh? you specifcally alkaline.

yeah thats what i thought.

i would like to argue its about the same price for a shell to make one on your own. ive made 7, im working on another 3 and i havent topped 70 bucks on my newest ones yet. and on a completely unrelated note to the innacuracy of the studio creations vaccuform shell, why hasnt anyone gotten the genius idea to make a cast of the INSIDE of the shell itself? the outside is a suction copy of the plastic, the inside, is the direct plastic to buck touching. why hasnt anyone thought to use the studio creations shell as a MOLD.

this is what i want to see. this is what cj wanted to see. this is a good post. you all should start taking notes.

cjay, the pack doesnt look as bad as these people are making it out to be, if you need any help or ideas or a sounding board, im your huckleberry. but every saw has a blade buddy.

Drop it. You may not want to buy the parts sold in the marketplace, it doesn’t mean others aren’t happy to.

Because then that’d be straying pretty close to recasting, if not the definition of recasting.

CJay if you can cancel your purchase i suggest you do so and use the money to get a studio creations shell.

If you cant I look forward to seeing you turn this kit into a great pack (or sell it to PC so he can show us how it’s done).

in no way shape or form is it recasting. people buy the studio creations shell to use it as the pack, not to use it as a mold. regardless what someone does in the privacy of their own home, with their own money is their business and none of yours. get off your horse and stop moderating everything you come by.

im sorry people that buy their packs on ebay that didnt get them from here, you need ben’s approval before you do it, and before you do anything to it. who do you think you are?

considering im already building 3 of my own right now? not a chance. however i would be open to the challenge at another time smarty pants. how about you go do some work for somebody else now. but thanks for showing him a snide amount of support.

That looks like one of my first Proton Packs: http://www.gbfans.com/fans/props/proton-packs/6/

I don’t dress up at cons, period. Does that mean that I’m not a fan?

PC do you have a thread somewhere which documents your current builds?

Im not trying to start arguments or be a “smarty pants” because to me arguing onlineis pointless as nothing gets resolved. I just find your view on certain aspects of prop building interesting.

One question for you (and again not trying to be a smart arse), what’s your take on the prop and model makers who built the various spacecraft etc for the starwars films? They used existing parts from model kits to decorate and detail the scratchbuilt models. Do you see that as a lack of creativity?

I’ll get off my high horse when you stop trying to boss me around.

Not the evil little tyrant you’re always trying to paint me as.

You may look down your nose at the influx of resin “kit” parts these days, but there simply aren’t enough parts in the world for everyone to have the real deal on their Packs, Traps, uniforms etc. Resin copies are the next best thing… sometimes they’re the preferred choice because they allow people to modify them to fit their parameters.

Sometimes they’re even better than the genuine article.

Take the resistors. Whilst there’s still a decent supply nowadays, it’s not going to last forever… and if a resin one gets knocked off of a Proton Pack, it’s a lot easier and cheaper to replace then trying to find another real one.

I don’t even need to explain the circumstances of the Sanyo calculator boards which have led to the creation of resin belt gizmos.

Your first pack looks 100x better than what is on ebay.

i dont normally document my builds especially here considering some points ive made in this thread alone. i’ll send you a pm if its that important.

as for movie prop makers for films, they’re the guys that give us something to do on a sunday afternoon. i think anyone that would have more problem with them would be ben with them recasting. kit bashing and scratch building is an incredibly creative thing, i used to do it when i was a starwars nerd customizing starwars figures and vehicles. im fascinated by scratchbuilt prop how tos.

an off the wall example: id rather watch someone build something from the ground up a han solo blaster out of the real thing or airsoft equivalent and if they can get it to still shoot bb’s or have some neat effect (and succeed or fail), than someone that has mutton head a’s han solo blaster, and mutton head b’s han solo blaster scope that lights up and makes noise. get my drift?

ben, you should probably stick that banana back in your pocket and get out of the house sometime. your arguement of recasting, and then saying “gee thanks sanyo and resistor casters!” made it moot. guess what bubba? they’re recasting that sanyo board! they’re recasting resistors! they’re recasting buttons and knobs! guess what bubba! anyone can cast it! who’s a recaster if people cast the same thing? if you get all antsy in your pantsy over someone taking a studio creations shell they bought and got the eureka to get a more accurate pack with out smooth edges by using the inside of the pack as a mold to use for their own use, then you should be just as nimbly in your bimbly at people recasting a resistor. hell i dont think you seemed to notice that i didnt say anything about them reselling what they get out of the studio creations mold. did you? because i didnt.

my advice to you is to get off your soap box, its starting to cave. it has come to a point where ive noticed when it comes to people’s decisions with their own money around the prop making community that if it isnt purchased here it needs to have your approval, and you are most definetly wrong.

Thanks PC for replying to my questions.

no problem. like i said, if its important i can send you something if you want. not really as flashy as id like it to be at the moment.

Bubba, it would be if it were using a genuine Sanyo board, the one I’m referring to was scratch built for the purpose of producing a resin run.

I know you didn’t say anything about reselling, I felt I should mention it regardless.

Returning to my original point of contention, keep your thoughts about the “evil” part sellers to yourself.

With the profanities in the recent posts, I think that this thread has gone south, though not by the author.

Mostly, all I can read is that people are trying to help the guy make a decision on the pack that is inaccurate as it can be, and will require a LOT of work in order to be remedied. Still, if you’re up for a challenge, you got it here. This kit can be turned into a decent pack, that is for sure, but the studio creation’s vac formed buck would have been an easier, and cheaper solution. I’ll be looking forward to seeing your work man!

Did you miss the resin belt gizmo issue completely? Both Kingpin and Nick-a-Tron are referring to the resin item, made by Nick. It is, to my knowledge, NOT cast from the real sanyo board, but rather a VERY nice show of someone’s workmanship. By taking someone’s work and taking a mold of it for any purpose IS recasting, however you want to think of it. It is, as you can argue, recasting to make a mold from a commercial item and selling it, but this is generally acceptable as the commercial items are in some cases rather scarce. To buy someone’s casting of a part or item and making a mold of it on your own IS recasting by definition, and is not acceptable. In fact, it is very, VERY rude.

There is no reason to raise hell for people giving opinions, even when, and especially when you disagree with them, or for some reason cannot understand the sarcasm in them..

Doing so will invariably ruin the thread, and the day for many, and is not cool in any way, shape or form.

As for statements regarding attitude, and taking notes, please, see if the shoe fits yourself..

Please, let’s get this thread back to the right track before it is forced to be locked.

oh god AJ, that is SOOOO inaccurate. i should kick your ass for that

I find it funnier that their website states that their products are as close to accurate as possible thanks to GBfans.
