So your basically buying it to almost start from scratch again? And what about studio creations made you say no to them but yes to this?..Just wondering.
well, since I have turned many sow’s ears into Prada purses, I’ll give my 2cents. As long as it isn’t a bag of fly ash, you should be able to do something with it. I just popped in here and didn’t read the whole thread (probably better off : ) I have purchased a busted wand from GBFans that I fixed and made it a part of my “2000” pack, and most my packs, traps, PKE, ECU, etc are “found items” (i.e. trash) since I’m broke. my pack from little bit of this and that:
When there is a public gathering trying to show off the large fanbase, I don’t that it colors you as a true supporter.
We did the disney theme parks for two days, and then wore our packs all day friday, even weathering the dealer room a number of times.
We also both were getting over colds, and I had no voice at all by Sunday.
BUT we STILL geared up for Saturday’s gathering and the later dinner get together. We really wished we could have done the putt putt golf as well, and were remiss that we didn;t get any pics of the Ecto at the dinner gathering.
We geared up to show support for the franchise, and also to show support for our freinds as well.
Rather then “not a fan” I’d prefer to call you a slacker instead.
With nothing but respect and love to my Ghosthead brethren who dress up for said gatherings, in my particular case it’s difficult for me to be backstage or running around wrangling several crews (and, sad but true, appear professional) if I were to be in a costume… Ghostbusters t-shirt? Sure.
I’ll take the slacker title, though. It’s been worn proudly by my generation for decades.
My case withstanding, just noting that because PC was wearing a Watchmen costume at a con, doesn’t make him any less of a fan than the next guy. Seriously, I feel like I’m a broken record, but if it’s an obligation to people - and if it’s not fun, why do it? Is PC obligated to dress as a Ghostbuster because he’s a fan? Where’s the fun in that?
Well, I did learn something today. I don’t have to work a 36 hour shift at the hospital to be around abunch of Females. All except PC, because I’ve met him and understand where he’s coming from, unlike alot of people on this site. And that’s all I’m going to say.
The best reason I can come up with is that the Studio Creations pack didn’t speak to me. I’m one of those guys who will take a junker and work on it to reach the level I want it to be to be satisfied (namely getting a GB:TVG pack). My favorite guitar is a Squier, part of the low-budget line of Fender. I replaced the pickup in there to get the sound I desired the most (namely a fuzzy Ramones/Misfits tone). That’s taking an existing guitar and then working on it after the sale.
Now I’m not shitting on Studio Creations. Maybe one day I might think about them, but for now I just didn’t see myself using it now. The inaccurate monstrosity has a lot of potential, I think at least, and I’m a stubborn enough fellow to keep tinkering and working on something until it’s to my satisfaction. But I’ll only know that until after next week when it gets here. I know I got my work cut out for me though.
I was comparing most of the participants of the argument, except for protoncharger, to some of the nurses at the hospital where I’m taking my internship.
I’m not complaining, but the nurses on that work the third floor are ugly on the inside with they’re “we come first” attitudes and the patients really despise them. And they argue with the other doctors. And the nurses in LA would look hotter than nurses from my home town. Other than that, lets’ drop the whole nurse thing, because I think someone looks over my shoulder whenever I’m not working on hospital stuff.
As a newbie in the proton pack field, I first want to say enjoy the build. I bought a Studio Creations pack and have it mobo mounted with a few pieces attached. I also recently bought a fiberglass shell from another forum (no clue who the maker is). It came with a lot of parts and has provided me several days of fun building. I am by no means and expert and have already found things about both shells I would prefer to be different. However, last night I was sitting around a fire with several other families and they asked me what I was working on (they know I am the guy in the neighborhood who wears weird outfits). I went home, put on my uniform and one of the partially assembled packs (sans throwing as I am still waiting on MMM’s kit) and went back. They loved it and I got more beers given to me.
There is a lot of arguing and misunderstandings in this post which I quickly skipped over two pages of so I will just say this. To each his/her own. Honestly, I am a perfectionist so when it came to my costume and pack, I went for extreme accuracy. Meaning, I spent over $1,300 and am still not quite content with my results. Others have pulled off having a really nice pack for half of that. And then there are the ones who spend twice as much as me. I will never put down another man’s work specifically, but I must say there are some packs out there that are just embarassing. This one however is not really all that bad. I mean it does need a lot of work and really the price isn’t that bad either but you can get pretty accurate resin shells for another $100 which I’d prefer to build off of. Too, I think its a great accomplishment to scratch-build an entire pack but in the case of wood, its hard to paint… it usually looks… well, crappy. Unless you plan on sealing it, varnishing, priming, or whatever you do to wood… just seems like a lot more work than it’s worth. I have paid a hefty premium on some really nice parts for my pack. The price doesn’t always reflect the cost of materials, or even the time that the creator used to make it. I am also paying for saving myself hours or days of stress trying to replicate a certain item out of scratch.
Research is key is making purchases. Don’t always jump on a great deal… sometimes it’ll cost you even more in the long run. I’m not the most active on this board or have the most experience, but if you have any building questions, feel free to PM me anytime.
