Building a pack for my son... help/advice needed please!

Those light are nice. Do the cyclotron lights get any slower than the adjustment video he posted? They seem kinda fast. And $99 shipped makes me kinda cringe. lol

Ya know, being slightly ocd isnt helping this project at all. I see proton packs in my sleep.

Well, ive gone ahead and tried to compress this thing as much as possible without distorting the raitos. All though it seems like very little, ive put a good deal of work into getting this far and I dont want to start over. This is about the best i think i can do without building new, smaller parts. I think it still looks decent, though there will be no space between the gearbox and gunmount, and the HGA will suffer, but i will live with this.

Its still way too big, but i as able to get the length down to about 23.5"

What do you think?

While my brain is on a roll and thinking, can anyone point me in the direction of a lightweight plastic gun body or kit, as aposed to a resin unit?

May I suggest foamboard? I’m currently building one myself and in the course of a week, I’ve got a LOT done. Check out my thread here: Paul's Foamcore Packs - Proton Packs - GBFans.com.

Foamboard is light and would probably be great for your kid. It’s also super cheap!

Just something to consider. It wouldn’t take you long to rebuild from scratch.

Foamboard was definatly a consideration, but i just kept thinking about one fall backwards on the pack and the whole thing colapses. LOL

Im still thinking about what to do for strong motherboard. I keep comming back to plywood but its so heavy. Maybe i can do like 1/4" plywood, and drill 1" holes all over the back of it (on all the parts that wont show from the front that is) That should reduce alot of weight, and with everything glued to it it should stay pretty strong.

I havent made my ion arm yet, maybe i can use foamboard for that! How bout any ideas for a lightweight bumper?

Yup, a bit big still id say, but maybe not as bad as some of you may thought. Im counting on a growth spurt in the next 11 weeks.
