My name is Jon Jones. I’m a Californian who currently lives in London. I put together my first Proton Pack circa 1998 (back before “Cosplay” was a word, I think).
I found this site looking for props and equipment for a Future Cinema event here in London, where they encourage people to dress in cosplay for the event. They usually have the whole place done up in the style of the film and you get to wander around in the various environments they’ve set up, and they’ve got actors hired to dress and enact scenes from the film. You can participate as much or as little as you like, really, and it’s difficult to discern the actors from the audience, so it’s really a lot of fun.
This year they’re doing Ghostbusters (they actually did it for Secret Cinema a few years ago, which is basically the same concept except that the audience doesn’t know the film beforehand except for vague hints, the guessing of which is immense fun in and of itself-- the last Secret Cinema was Terry Gilliam’s Brazil). I’m absolutely thrilled they’re doing Ghostbusters, of course, it’s one of the few films I know pretty much inside and out (although I won’t claim to be an expert in the field on THIS particular forum :P).
