Otherwise something like shoeboxes, random tubing, hot melt glue, and blinking lights.. etc would work perfect for a 5 year old.

You could also look on ebay, and find the real toy real ghostbusters proton pack and gun, maybe even a trap.
My brother’s kid was suppose to be my mini ghostbuster, but they are not going to be able to make it into town. So I will be putting this on ebay tomorrow. Has no wand though.Has Lights .

When I was a kid, me and a friend made our own proton packs ourselves by cutting a couple of slits in a cardboard box (so the straps from a backpack could slip through) and using a stick and string as the proton thrower. Sure it wasn’t movie accurate by a LONG shot, but people had no problem figuring out who we were supposed to be.
For lots of money since it’s considered as a collector’s item now.
Also check out some of the Halloween stores that usually spring up for Halloween. They should have it.

I’ve seen them go for as little as $30… and sometimes with a trap and pke as well for $50.. for everything you are getting, thats a killer deal, when you consider today’s toy prices.
Someone had mentioned using one of those plastic toy lawnmowers with the wheels and handle removed strapped on the back and painted black.
I’m a real newbie here too. My 7 year old son just recently got into Ghostbusters big time so, of course, he’s gonna be a Ghostbuster for Halloween. I built him a really really cheap proton pack and gun out of mostly cardboard, things around the house, and some battery operated lights from the craft store. I started the whole thing though be watching this video and then went on from there. I’m sure it’s right up your alley.
cool!
