Hey folks! You don’t know me…I’m a LONG TIME lurker. Anyways…my oldest son (2 years) decided he wanted to be a Ghostbuster for Halloween this year. So for the past few weeks I’ve been working on this for him:
It’s nowhere near movie accurate…and I’m taking lots of liberties when it comes to the design. I’ve still got a lot of parts, wires, and tubing to attach. I also have to paint it black, weather it up, and finish up the proton gun/particle thrower.
It’s almost entirely made out of foamboard, glued together with hot glue. There are a few parts such as pvc pipe, a spray can cap, and a piece of round tupperware. Let me know what you think!
maybe i’m out of touch since i don’t have any kids, but 2yrs seems a little young to know what ghostbusters is, much less know about halloween and decide what you want to be…i suspect dear old dad has had quite a hand in this!!! just giving ya a hard time!
the mini pack looks pretty good. somebody else did this once before. these little ones amaze me.
It will be interesting to see what happens with this next generation. My son is 5. When he’s in his 30’s, will he be nostalgic for Ghostbusters? Will his college pals be into it, too? That looks cute. With kids, how can you be movie accurate? I made a green one since it’s his favorite color. Just make it light (maybe 2 lbs or less) and it will be fine.
He actually enjoys Ghostbusters a lot…I think it’s mainly the car though. He’s big into the Ectomobile so much that we had to find one of them off eBay to get for him for Christmas last year (prevously he had been driving around a yellow toy Camaro and saying it was the Ghostbuster car…).
I made him a simple Ghostbuster logo shirt using a T-shirt transfer, which will be part of his costume (since finding a jumpsuit for a 2 year old is a task I don’t want to bother with) and he hasn’t wanted to take it off since. I had to make another one just so he could wear it around all day.
I started work on the particle thrower last night…found a handheld fishing game that closely resembles the particle thrower…with a little work of course. I’ll post up some pics once I get some more progress done on it.
Aw, I can relate to this thread. My dad has always helped me with my projects. Prop building has been a hobby since I was a kid and he was responsible for countless trips to the hardware store, and helping me with the most difficult parts of building. We actually scratch built a life sized R2D2!
You sound like a great dad and I hope you guys have a happy halloween
Pack is almost complete. Need to make a bumper out of something around the house…and need to add some stickers (warning, etc) on the pack. Only had room to put three of the four washers on…but most folks outside of GB costuming communities won’t even notice.
At first he wasn’t very happy with the idea of being a Ghostbuster for Halloween…even though he can be in the other room and you can play the GB theme and he’ll come running.
Finally after I finished up the particle thrower/proton gun/proton wand…whatever you call it…he decided that he DOES want to be a Ghostbuster for Halloween. I even let him run around outside for a couple of minutes with it on. Here are some shots of him in the rig again. Not much change on the pack…added some warning stickers and of course finished up the gun. Still need to find something to use for the bumper.
The pack looks awesome.I can tell that you are a great dad man.I hope you and your boy enjoy Halloween together.I can’t wait to have a son for me to be able to do things like this for and with.
I do have a 6 year old nephew who absolutely loves GB.I just finished his RGBish pack, just needs a coat of paint. He was so happy to see it,he just kept rubbing it saying,"This is my proton pack?I can’t believe it.Thank you Yogi."Yes,he calls me Yogi, and he’s my little Boo Boo.
When he was really young,I would say in Yogi’s voice “Hey Boo Boo.Let’s get us some picnic baskets!” and he would just laugh and laugh.Though that has not changed either in 6 years. He’s as close to a son as I can have.
Big Jon, i’m completely jealous! I have a son of my own, but he’s only 6 months old i cannot wait for the opportunity to do something like that. Great Job! I’ve already built my son a lightsaber, did it before he was even born. It will be a couple of years before he can play with it, but i was too excited to wait. I think our kids will love the fact were all still kind of dorks! Not that thats a bad thing. But awesome awesome job.
p.s. if your looking to build a bumper, i built mine out of plywood, took me 15 min. and its not accurate, but still looks cool, and you could use a film canister as the ion knob, just paint it silver.
