i’ve been checking sites and they all have been saying that there are gonna be different ghost fighting weapons aside from the proton pack and one was a electron based weapon which would freeze the ghost?
how the hell does that make sense, i can assume that since the proton packs fire off chared protons that ghosts would have to be made of electrons to cause a stasis effect they do. But if its firing electron wouldn’t it (im not sure i’m only a business major with a high school science classes, a one month crash course in science- J-term and a semester of nucleonics) make the ghost kinda explode or something cause instead of neutralizing it with an opposite they would instead be charging it with more electrons causing it to explode (when the electrons collide, i think or due to the ghost being unable to hold that much energy) or disrupt it?
forgive the spelling and if you can explain the concept of the so called new weapon which could just be speculation from a bunch of websites ( i think it was mentioned in the GI preview of it) but please explain or correct me cause i want the game to make a little sense out of freezing a ghost
I don’t think they tried to go too deep about it. I think they just applied movie-logic to it.
Regular proton stream-blows things up and catches things on fire
Electron beam- do the the exact opposite
They are just trying to keep it simple. I mean, how many times in RGB did they save the day by simply reversing the polarity on their proton packs. If you think about this stuff too long your head will hurt so I just try to go with it.
yeah but i just don’t like the idea of freezing a ghost to kill (the idea is to freeze then smash them so you don’t have to catch them) it cause freezing a ghost won’t stop it at least if they went with the idea that it would cause them to explode, dissipate, or implode it would be a little more believable and look a lot cooler
but i guess if they did the blowing up thing then the thing that happened in the robo-buster episode would happen, which would still be cool
Lets think about this. Every ghostbuster game has weird weapons. look at the gb game fore sega and gb2 game. did they use the slime blower the whole movie? nope sure didnt. also look at the rgb and egb games fore gameboy. they try and make it more exciting but they dont know what all of us ghost heads really want is the standard equipment. Video game makers will always throw in ■■■■ that wasnt in the movie, but lets make the best of the game when i comes out.
Look at the toys. There was all kinds of different types of weapons for the toys. There was about five different styles for the Ghostbusters. They had some in space suit things. Some were dressed hip and stylish and when you pushed their legs together their mouths dropped open and their eyes popped out like they were scared witless. But, we all know that there’s nothing like the original proton packs and uniforms. It won’t stop me from playing the game, though. All the stuff is science FICTION.
well, quantum physics sometimes sounds like science fiction. Alternate dimensions, space time anomalies, entangled particles, Quantum Hall effect, etc. Sometimes things in the real world don’t behave the way they should on the quantum level, so why should ghosts be any different? I can’t walk through a wall, but a ghost can. It exists in a parallel dimension where the laws of physics operate differently. So, a proton stream destroys regular matter, but catches a ghost. An electron stream may shock you, but stun/freeze/explode a ghost. I read the other day that this scientist used lasers to alter the surface of metal to make it another color (turned gold blue, brass red, etc.) So, sometimes real science is stranger than sci fi. : )
Well, remember that slime (i.e. ectoplasm) is a residue caused by interaction with an extradimensional plane and our native plane (like water condensing on a glass–the water is in the air, and contact with the cold glass causes it to revert to a liquid form). So, a dimensional interceptor could “condense” slime, an it could be directed along a proton beam. Why am I not getting paid for this??? : P
Was there a picture of the slime coming out of the proton pack? I remember hearing about the tether but I don’t remember seeing a pic of it. I heard that it was a totally seperate device, which ticked me off because that would have been a perfect secondary effect for the slime blower.
when it was shown in GI magazine it showed a picture of a frozen ghost and in the page brought up that it was a new weapon, but i haven’t seen any pics for the slime blower
Excluding one piece of concept art there hasn’t been any sign or mention of the Slime Blowers, which doesn’t exactly bode well for them. And it’d be a shame as that was one of the cool things about GBII, that and the ‘Tripod Trap’.
I’d suggest not getting too caught up on some of the details, as there will always be some questionable choices made by the developers (in our minds) that were done to make the game appeal to a wider audience, and to implement some of the standard functions you’d expect from a game, such as a variety of weapons.
Hardcore gamers are very hard to please. they look for diversity in weapons, maps, etc. Us ghostheads just want the game because we love ghostbusters. I dont think there is enough of us out there for them to make the game just the way we want it, so they had to throw in a few extras. Seeing how it is a “sequel” they may tell a small story about how the weapons came about. Like Egon just developed this new weapon for this certain ghost. (like he always did in rgb).
Any how, no matter what they put in it, im sure all of us ghostheads will be happy to play it.
I agree. They need to do a MASS MARKET appeal. The fact that it’s “Ghostbusters” and not “Ferris Bueler’s Day Off” will give it instant recognition with the public. Since the Fab 4 are onboard, I’m confident that there will be a lot to keep us happy (and, with this site, I’m sure the “secret codes” and “special hidden content” won’t stay that way for long.) Do you think I’m going to be jamming in front of the Wii for 3 days straight? No way (not that I wouldn’t like to, but I gotta pay the mortgage, bills, etc.) But, someone out there will. Or, their kids will, and find the stuff in 1/4 the time. : P
I think you’ll find that these screencaps I grabbed from the Gametrailers footage explains where the slime tether comes from.
See green tank on the side of the pack and extra tube attached to the proton gun’s hose? See the slime blower-style nozzle attatched to the end of the thrower?
There’s still no excuse for ghosts being frozen by electrons instead of repelled magnetically, though. And saying “it’s just a game”, frankly, is childish and a poor excuse.
We all know that once this game comes out, there will be fan fiction writers itching to use these new attatchments in their work, and then it’ll be up to people like poor old Fritz and me to explain how the hell it’s supposed to work…
