After seeing the awesomeness of the neutron wand, and I have so far been very impressed with all there GB gadgets, I am on board for them to make the actual proton pack. I think they see it happening too, the wand had parts on it that are obviously meant to be plugged in to work with a pack. I think they really want to, and not only because of a 3rd movie (which im sure wont even happen now cuz of ramis passing, which I think is a good thing {the movie I mean}). I think they make a limited run of packs and yes it will be the most expensive thing they ever done, but still, a 400-500 dollar mostly accurate plastic pack that LOOKS authentic with lights and sounds would be better for us fans who don’t have the time or patience to build an actual pack ourselves. but I do see it happening, and I think many of you do as well. they’ve come this far, they should just take the plunge and give the fans what they really want now.
I too, would love them to make one. The thought of building one is very daunting to some people, especially those of us just starting out in this community. While I know it would never be as accurate as some of the amazing packs built by people on this site, it would be close enough for most people. Plus, an all plastic pack would be much lighter than an accurate home made one.
I’d like to think the fact that they future-proofed the wand with a jack to connect a pack to is a good sign. After all, why would they do that if they had no intention of making a pack?

I heavily doubt that many people will want to buy a 400 dollar proton pack so I wouldn’t worry about that lol. plus, sadly, on Halloween you almost never see as many ghostbusters anymore. maybe in the late 80’s you saw more of them, today its really only the diehards who put effort into these.
You can’t have both. A Mattel pack is a sure way to have swarms of Matty busters at every convention and Halloween getting the same attention. The work and research it takes to make a decent pack goes out the window.
who cares? its high time companies started making packs everyone can afford not just the die hards.

Matty, while you don’t have to assemble or build anything to have the prop, is terrible with customer service and doesn’t get along very well with the community. They had a terrible time shipping out neutrona wands on time. I can’t imagine what a clusterf*ck packs would be.
Not to mention the whole “red tubing, green tubing” debacle. Ugh.
Uh not likely. They’ll Still find a way to screw it up and cut corners. Not saying I wouldn’t buy it, just saying that it may not be as good as a shell and resin pack.

Im on the fence of it really. Id buy it to complete the thrower I bought but I built my own recently and while its cost was higher due to buying everything needed, I found it much more satisfying.

Here’s where I start soundng like a real noob, but what is it that some people round here seem to have against the Matty stuff? It goes without saying that anything mass produced will be of a lower standard than a hand crafted replica made with love.
Now, even someone as new to this community as I am can see the flaws in their products compared to the real thing, but to those of us who aren’t as skilled as the rest of you, they are a great way in to the hobby. Most of the errors are minor enough that they can be fixed with a dab of paint… or at least, fixed enough to satisfy the standards of someone who wouldn’t know where to start building stuff from scratch.
Ah, now you see, before I joined here and saw the blacklisted sellers, I had given serious thought to one of his ready made packs… DON’T HATE ME, I KNOW BETTER NOW! 
Pretty much the only reason I hadn’t was the stupidly high cost (and it’s not that I couldn’t afford it, it’s just a matter of principal that it’s a lot of money). But that’s my point, there are plenty of people who want a pack, even at a high cost, without the hassle of making one themselves. So a Matty pack, while undoubtedly expensive, and of a lower quality than what you could make yourself for the same price, is still very tempting to a lot of people who would otherwise never get to own one.
Also, and I don’t want to start sounding confrontational here, but isn’t it a bit elitist to be saying “I don’t want conventions full of people with Matty stuff”? While it’s true that to most non-ghostheads, a proton pack is a proton pack… at the same time the difference in quality between a plastic pack and a metal / resin etc. pack would be obvious to all. I very much doubt a “Matty” Ghostbuster would be drawing attention away from a “screen accurate perfect” Ghostbuster.
Settle for whatever you want; you get what you pay for.
I’d imagine a convention full of Matty packs would be like a Star Wars convention full of those oversized, plastic light sabres with those extednable plastic tubes. It’s not that people want the Matty stuff, it’s that no one wants to even try and make their own stuff when a company offers a lower quality, chincy feeling product, and hearing about how many people just want to settle for it and not strive for something better.
Hell, I’ll just say it: with all the products offered within this community, a person really only needs to look at pictures and assemble the pieces; they’ve really made building a pack so friggin easy. But the thing that bums me out lately is I’ve been reading more about how people want a Matty pack “for those without time and patience”; everyone wants to be the best, but is willing to settle for mediocre if it means they don’t need to try.
I’m not personally accusing any individual members here, but we all know it happens. Give it a shot, people! I had ZERO, and I mean zero, skills with any tools and next to no pack knowledge, when I started in this hobby. But you sit down, do some research, and make something you can be proud of. You’ll never know what you’re capable of until you sit down and do it. I love when people ask me “Where’d you buy that?” And I can tell them I built it. Watching their jaws drop in amazement is priceless.
My two cents. Please take this as an answer to the question posed about why there’s resistance to Matty products and not a personal attack.

As I said, pick your poison. Its a financial gamble either way and definitely not cheap for either choice.
Agreed with the above statements about building. I wanted to commission one but now that I’m building my own, there is nothing like that satisfaction.
I have all the Matty items and I love the trap. Wish they would bring it back. But I’m also planning to build my own and I’ve started collecting the pieces too.
Will I buy the Matty pack if it gets made? Maybe. It’ll be cost dependant. If get it only to have the collection. Not to take out and wear.

I try not to get into the “built vs bought” debacle too much. Ultimately, the Mattel ‘props’ are toys. I understand that a majority of us on GBFans are fairly ■■■■ about screen accuracy, but come on, guys - didn’t we all want (toy) proton packs and traps when we were kids? That’s where Mattel did everyone a service - they made childhood dreams come true, as absurdly corny as that sounds. I’m thankful for that. Sure, I’ve built my own trap and pack, but I consider them display pieces. The Mattel stuff? I don’t mind wearing it out or letting my nephews play with them. They’re toys. Expensive toys, but toys nonetheless.
With that being said, I would buy a pack if Mattel released one. No questions asked.
