Do you think the game deserves more hype?

It’s great that people from Gaming Mags and the net are really looking forward to this game as am I and a couple of mates of mine, plus you guys too.

But when I have spoke to a fair few people I know, some are like “There’s a Ghostbusters game coming out? wow!” or “Oh right” like they have grown up and forgotten about all the cool stuff they did when they were kids.

When it’s close to release date, can you see shops putting posters up, hyping it up etc?

I can understand at the moment that a lot of people are still really into GTA IV as am I, but when this game comes out, do you think the general public will treat this like just any other game?

Or put it in the echalon of say Halo 3, and Gears Of War 2 in terms of hype?

I think it deserves alot more hype. But then again it’s still pretty early, I’m sure the closer it gets to its realse date, especially around Halloween, we’ll see more buzz about the game.

Of course, all us Ghostbusters fanatics definitely think it deserves a lot more hype. I agree with Slimepunk, though. It could be just because we still have a while to go. I mean, we have about five months left until the game is due to come out, so I doubt they’d start hyping it quite that much yet.

Sierra has not released much information. Without fresh screens and access to developers for interviews, hype can’t exist. So as we get closer to release, I think you’ll see more. But it’s not necessarily a case of nobody WANTING to make a big deal out of it; it’s being given the materials to do so.

I am pretty sure that most franchise operators are going to be out in force on the release day… any planned on just randomly walking around a local mall on weekends leading up to the release?

I mean Sierra / Vivendi and Sony may be power-houses behind the game and the overall franchise - outside of sending out folks in halloween costumes and blow-up backpacks (pretty pathetic) to promote the game - but the community really would a great energy to tap into. Who else has that many ‘new recruits’ and ‘authentic’ equipment?

We all know what happened with the 501st - why not with Ghostbusters International franchise operators?

Would this be that touch of ‘hype’?

It’s not like GTA IV could have foreigners running around the city sterotyping their characters, car-jacking and killing hookers!

And what of GTA IV was released that far in advance? The closer it got to release - the more was let out… the TV interviews, screen shots, game play - similair to Ghostbusters, their TV interviews are getting out, magazine articles, game play… let’s face it Ghostbusters (gamewise) is not GTA (who can forget playing that sky-view version)… if the community does not trust Sony (because they have done such a good job with their respect of Ghostbusters!) then I say we take it upon ourselves (or contact Sierra / Sony and tell them what we think) and ‘hype’ it.

Thats true, GTA IV did not have that much hype this early.

It wasn’t until like a month or two before it’s release you started seeing billboards and commercials and all that other jazz…

We just know about it because we are dedicated… The rest of the world will know in due time… hahah it’s all just a matter of time…

I can’t speak for the game hype as much as all the rest of you guys. Living in Australia limits our amount of game hype - considering games usually have an extra month or 2 on their release date.

One thing I have heard about the local hype and plug from a mate of mine is that his EB store (he’s the store manager) have organised to have proton packs made for staff to wear in the store on the launch day and the last week build up. (best example of WTF is going on advertising eh?) Though they are going to be crappy $2 plastic contruction (like the mask you get in an Iron Man show bag) I’ve convinced my mate to PROTECT his so we could try and use it for a fibreglass mold for later proton pack construction.

As for hype, the only games that get hyped up this far from release are games like *Halo 3 *and Super Smash Bros Brawl. The kind of games the console itself needs to hype to say “MY CONSOLE IS BETTER THAN YOURS.” Then hype things like buy it now and get a free t-shirt or character toy/statue…

hymmm… That’s a cool thought. Do you reckon we’d get a Ghostbusters game t-shirt or something for the pre-orders?

Hype or no… if there are ghostheads… there will be sales.

Besides… I don’t get the hype about halo… glorified storm troopers with guns… how many games have that?

It was the highly anticipated conslusion to one of the most successful game series of all time… the hype for Halo 3 wasn’t unjustified in my mind.

There’ll also be non-Ghostheads who will either be interested enough to get the game because of the retro/fond memory of the film, or intrigued to see what everyone’s talking about.

That said, the game can always use more hype.

I think when it comes to upcoming games, I think everyone knows what’s the next “to buy” game on the list.

In the end, hype well breed more hype.

I am a little surprised there hasn’t been a trailer or some sort of footage where we get to hear the guys talking yet, but I wouldn’t worry about hype too much until we get to the release date and see how intense the ad campaign is.

October can’t come fast enough…

On another note, who else is going to watch GB1 & GB2 back-to-back prior to playing the videogame on it’s release date?

I’m sure we’ll see one before the end of July, what better way to kick off the Summer than hyping up the game release with a trailer?

Rob, I’ll probably be doing just that, work permitting.

I’m taking the release date off from work..maybe even the day after…we’ll see.

It deserves much, much more hype. They shouldn’t treat this as an ordinary videogame but as an interactive sequel to the movies - Vivendi, do some movie trailer commercials for the silver screen! It wouldn’t be that bad if the movie geeks (remember, it’s more of a movie franchise) get the news instead of some gaming youngsters, born after the GB’s heydays!
