Best anime adaptation ever…it has to be said.
No, the Akira adaptation will be better than this. I think this is taking things a little too far. Dragonball and everything to do with it really needs to be put to rest already. They aren’t evolving anything. The only that’s evolving here is a pointless attempt at sucking a little more revenue out of expired anime.
I prey that the Akira adaptation will be better than this.
O my good gracious…was I supposed to laugh?
ya know i thought the movie would be bad and it has yet to prove me wrong…and that makes me sad
i also hope that the Akira film does well, but i havent heard much beyond it was being made and that was a while ago
It seems odd to have a subtitle like “Evolution” for the first live action film… but my head isn’t tuned to “Hollywood”.
Nothing special, but I wasn’t expecting anything great from it… not a fan of the series so it’s just another martial arts/sci fi film.
But I’m definitely looking forward to seeing Akira. Loved the original, interested to see a film that covers more of the story, and in live action.
Just as long as they use appropriately asian actors for it.
while i love the dragon ball and dragon ball z series this has me on the fence.
Also, the Street Fighter: Origin of Chun Li movie. Loved the games, iffy on this movie.
I’ll see both of them though ![]()
Do you disagree about the casting of Goku and Piccollo? I never understood why people were so adament that they had to be asian. Yes the story was created and takes place in Japan but Goku is an alien. He is not asian so there is no reason that the actor has to be. Bulma, Yamcha, and the others should be though.
I’m not too familiar with Justin Chatwin’s work so I won’t make a judgement but I won’t ding him for not being asian.
I think kingpin is taling about the Akira movie being a asian cast.
Did any one catch the Initial D live action movie? I didn’t mind it at all. Bit of eye candy.
Charlie understood what I meant.
Goku is not Asian. He’s a monkey. I don’t know how important races are as far as Saiyans are concerned, but they all pretty much share the same characteristics: a tail, and crazy-ass hair that never grows past a certain length. Apparently Saiyans can grow facial hair, but that’s about it. The way Goku is portrayed in this movie makes him look like some yuppy kid from New York. Goku is kind of mangy and somewhat like an animal.
There had better be some segment at the beginning of the movie that shows off Goku as a child, raising himself, living off the land, and generally acting like a monkey boy. With the way the adult Goku seems to carry himself in this movie, I just don’t see them covering that.
The only character that looks right is Piccolo, the rest might as well be anyone.
Whatever, I guess Dragonball isn’t profitable enough to justify a adaptation that’s true to the anime. It’s not impossible, just not profitable. People wouldn’t pay to see it either way.
Still, they did the best with what they had. I always thought this was a bad idea.
Jeez, I wonder what’s going to happen to the whole anime fandom like maybe 5 or 10 years down the road. It’s like America just warps every thing it can possibly get it’s hands on so bad one day people won’t even know the original Toriyama Dragonball even exists. Sorry…rant. >_< I shouldn’t really care. The anime box sets are still being produced. I dunno.
At least it’s not as bad as the Chinese live action Dragonball movie. I guess.
Funny you should mention that. According to wikipedia, Dragonball was based off of a classic Chinese folk novel called Journey to the West. So, I guess that means the Japanese are the first offenders in this perversion you speak of, but then again, Dragonball is still in its infancy when you compare it to its source material. Journey to the West broke out in the 1600’s.
It also doesn’t help that Hollywood is running out of ideas for movies. Look at the past few years. Its been comic books, anime, previously made movies and tv shows…obviously Hollywood is having issues coming up with new ideas
When it comes to storytelling, I think originality died somewhere around 1 AD. ![]()
