so should i just use any kinda yellow food die for the clear tube to get it yellow? how should i die it? just let some slide down into the tube or what?
i’m not buying one from the store i already bought 2 clear ones from home depot just can someone plz tell me how i need to die it

I used the I believe it was Golden Yellow RIT dye(the same dye for the suits,elbow pads etc) and did my best to try and plug up both ends with the dye inside and left it overnight. Needless to say it was a bit messy and the hose could probably stand to be a little darker but it a decent shade of yellow( probably something like this There may be an easier or better way to do this someone else will know of but that was my result. Dunno how I’d feel about a darker yellow. I’m pretty satisfied with the color.
If you tried something like I did, I recommend making sure it’s good and dry and getting the excess dye out of it, especially before getting it near your suit. For anyone who hasn’t gotten some hose yet(I did it a long while back) AJ’s hose looks like an easy great looking answer to avoid messing with it yourself. :lol: It may be a little cheaper to try and do it yourself though. I wasn’t too concerned with too much accuracy as far as the hose goes, to me it was somewhat of a minor detail on the suit.

Boil the hose in Gold Rit Dye.
Brown Leather Dye. Stop up one end of the hose and pour a little dye in with a little bit of water. Plug the other end of the hose with your thumb and run the dye back and forth through the hose. After a couple of minutes you’ll have this:
The more water you mix in with the dye, the lighter the shade. Just experiment with some scrap hose until you got the color you want.
I use Fiebing’s Medium Brown Leather Dye. You can get it at any Tandy Leather store and some Hobby Lobby’s sell it.
I’m almost done putting my own costume together, just need to do a little tweaking. Fortunately, these forms have been very helpful. On the hose subject, I was in the same boat as having a clear ½ inch hose and wondering how to yellow it up. What I did is take some bright yellow spray paint and spray inside both ends of the hose until it was completely coated. The effect is that the inside is yellow, but the outside is still clear from the thickness of the hose. Not exactly like the more transparent tubing used in the movies, but it has a nice effect. Works for me anyway.
Zack, after trying other methods, I used the rit dye , a 2 quart pan 3/4 full of water, and about half the packet of sye. I boiled them until the color looked about right, pulled them out with cooking tongs, and pin pinned them up to dry, and both are perfect!

Easiest and cheapest way, go to walmart and buy a small bottle of iodine and a pair of rubber gloves. Plug the one end, pour in the iodine, plug the other end slosh it back and forth for a few minutes let sit for 5 min. repeat, let sit another 5 min. then pour the iodine back into the container. Run cold water thru to remove excess.
Thats how i do mine. as long as your hose doesn’t have a coating on the inside it should work fine and only costs about $3
The dye was only $2.25.. 
I still have half a package as well.. I probably could have gotten away with 1/3rd a pack.
I tried iodine, and I just couldn’t get good even coverage.
Upside of iodine, is they ya dremel yer hand you have some handy…LOL!
This is one of those basic easy to sdo things, but the good thread about it is buried here somewhere.. it should be stickied I think. I found it yesterday, but couldn’t locate it today.
How I dyed mine:
Got the Gold Yellow Rit dye (get it a wal mart or a hobby store, just a couple bucks)
Took a large spaghetti pot, filled it with hot water and let it heat it to almost boiling.
Made my dye mix with 2 cups of boiling water, some salt, and the dye (no detergent)
Poured the water into a bucket, added dye mix, put the hose in. Let sit for around a hour or so stirring or moving the house every once in a while to get air out and get a good even dye.
It’s a really heavy concentration of color sense your supposed to use more water, but mine turned out very yellow (and I think they look great). You may want to add a little more HOT water to the bucket to dilute the mix.
After an hour or so, take the hose out, run hot water through it a couple times, hang it up in the middle to let the excess drain and to help it retain it’s shape (who wants a big coily hose) and let it dry.
Easy.

I used 1/2 a pack is a 2 quart pot of boiling water for two hoses. I boiled them for about 4 minutes or so, took em outside, removed them with kitchen tongs, and puch pinned them up by anend so they could dry outdoors. They really came out killer!
All I did was cut the hose to about 5 ft and put it in a bucket of hot water with a packet of yellow (or golden yellow) clothing dye and a little salt for about an hour and it came out perfect.
*Remember to glide the hose in from one end to the other so you won’t have any air bubbles inside it.
the ritt dye method works beautifully make sure to follow the tutorial and it will come out as nice as can be.

Im glad I found this! after googling for what seems like for ever and coming up empty on yellow hose this makes perfect sense!
I lol’d in the Michaels store when I picked up the package labeled Golden yellow RIT dye, especially after reading some threads where people get told it’s a catheter.
There are an awful lot of methods here. but few people have posted pics of their results? Let’s see some pics!
