Well. I’m a month into my build and piecing everything together. (And hopefully got the photo’s fixed)
After finding out I had a Loveusmonkey Shell that I had to cut knobs off where the Filler Tube and Beam Line went. And I also had to fiberglass the inside of the shell.
Once that was done, I finally drilled and tapped everything so I can assemble a test fit of the parts that I have.
Finally finished the fine detail and painted everything. Now, I just wait with my pack loosely assembled while I wait for my mounting brackets, knobs, resistors, barbs, hoses, lenses and labels to finally finish at least the pack. I’m practically salivating to finish this pack and mound it to my Motherboard and ALICE frame!!
Side Note: The N-Filter was royally messed up so I had to chop it off and replace it with one that was sent with my parts from Karnivorous Creations. I’ve found out that Plumber’s Putty is a great sculpting tool and fastener. Smooth it out with some Isopropal Alcohol and its seamless!
I also screwed up with mounting my Booster Tube and Frame. Anyone know how to fix acrylic tubing to hide holes?
So I finally ordered the mounting brackets and pack spacers so I could at least start to mount the pack to the ALICE Frame. Well I found out that because I’ve had this shell since 2011 in my basement that it became warped. Since I already trimmed (over trimmed in some cases) the excess flashing off this shoddy thing and fiber glassed the inside myself without realizing it was so mangled. I went to go line up the shell to the mother board and it just didn’t seem to match up too well, then I found the thing rocked when I placed pressure on one side and the opposite end came off the board.
Well it looks like a new shell is in the future for me. I’ll probably keep the current shell and add some parts to it later and keep it as a wall decoration or something. Either way, Grr…
Ouch! Talk about a setback, how bad is the warping? In your pics the shell doesn’t look that badly bent except maybe across the top, is it just that it leaves a slight lip or will not sit flat enough to mount? It’s actually pretty common for the shell to sit with a slight gap from the motherboard, screen accurate if I recall correctly, and gets hidden once your shell and mobo are painted. Any chance it’ll still mount up but leave some small gap that can be hidden with the paint coat?
There’s about a half inch gap at the bottom of the shell when the top of the shell and Motherboard. And vice-versa when the bottom is pressed flat. Warped and twisted. So new shell, filters and Legris Straights it is since they’re all superglue’d together lol. Thankfully just got a new job (after being unemployed for six months), be an adult with some car fixes and then see what I have left over.
