Hey gang, I’ve done alot of work on the Ecto, and this is the very latest in her siren test. We’re planning on a third as soon as some new amber strobes come in for her. I wish I could afford a lightbar for the rear of her roof rack, but for now I’m putting some strobing led’s back there, because the lights on the trunk finally shot craps, as I knew they would, also, there’s a set of strobes coming in to go into her grille. Anyways, this is the Ecto Siren Test 2, and to anyone who hasn’t visited the website in a while, I suggest you do, there’s been a LOT of changes made.

Is that ringing just the camera or is it the speakers that you used, because I don’t get that at all on my siren…
I’ll do you one better. Soon as I get a day off I’ll take my camera out to the Ecto and video a go-through of the wiring system. In the Ectomobile section of the forum I have a wiring diagram up of how it works.
So far as in a ringing, I didn’t hear any ringing, maybe you should have your ears checked. Besides, I haven’t noticed that your ecto even has a siren, and, if mine even does have a ringing, it’s the camera, because it doesn’t ring even when I’m sitting right under it.
Oh, and another thing, yours is just a CHEAP CHEAP INACCURATE knockoff of the Ecto1A, least I had the brains and the courage to design and build something new, something unique. Something that doesn’t blow it’s fuses after 10 minutes of use.
Haha, no we’ve always had a sound system up on top. Originally it was just a pair of computer speakers sitting behind the lightbars. I actually bought a speaker similar to yours early on but I must have had the wrong type because it didn’t pump out nearly enough power as we wanted. Plus, the music we managed to get out of a plastic loudspeaker like that sounded awful compared to the speakers, so we went with that. Recently, when I rebuilt the main box that acts as the base of the rack, I installed two 6-inch marine speakers, essentially just nice car speakers that are water and weather-proof. The sound from those is remarkable… I often drive around playing music out of them instead of my normal car stereo. I’ll work on getting some video up for you soon.

It was taken with a camera phone so it sounds… well, shitty. That’s the old system, it’s crap compared to the new rig.
Glad to hear you taking an interest in my replica… it’s not much but it’s been far more successful than I ever thought it could have been!

I have a pair of marine speakers too, I wasn’t sure which to use. I was thinking of using all four, but the siren has a high quality, but I do agree with the sound of music, it’s.. not so great.
So far as in a PA, I’m positive that you could wire it up to work like that. I actually have a third speaker I’m going to mount up in the front of the car, and hook it up to my CB so I can use it as a PA speaker, but remember if you say anything to anyone, you have to be very careful what you say, people are freakin goofy.
And yes, I did have an interest in the subaru ecto, but.. Not anymore.

It’s hard to tell if the cut-downs to your Subaru are meant to be taken seriously or not. I’m really confused.

Probly is the compression on youtube, I know it cut the video quality of the Siren test 2 down. The camera I have takes way better video than that.
Well I got that video done I was telling you about for the wiring of the siren. Trouble is, it’s 20 minutes long, and about 280 megs, and I can’t get it down low enough to 100 to upload to youtube or to my myspace.. I’m trying to figure out how to work it, best I’ve gotten it was down to 190 megs. Oh, and tonight I just got some grille strobes into the Ecto after getting them in the mail, but I am not pulling apart all that wiring to show you :lol: All you’ll have to figure it out for yourself because I used the wiring harness but had to extend the wires from the control box to the lights. Maybe I’ll take a video of them working, they have several different flash patterns and I can’t decide on which to use.
What a lot of people do with stuff that’s too big is cut it down into chapters(so that each chunk lasts to a coherent cut point that will allow each clip to be less than 100MB).

Mount marine speakers into your roofrack - $40 for a pair of 6-inchers

Buy and install amp. Nothing fancy, don’t need more power than your speakers can max out at or they will sound like crap. $50

Wire amp to battery and frame for ground.

Run discman or mp3 player to your amp, will allow you play not only a siren, but also any media you want to pump out.
Uh, I do believe I was asked how I did it, ah-doihihi.
Oh and, my method is more cost effective. For those on a tighter budget.
