Exoray wand lights vs film lights

Anybody notice that in the scene in GB1, when the guys go up to fight Gozer, and you see them switching on the lights in the wand, that the top switch on the gun (by the bargraph) is activated first, with the bargraph active and the inside lights off (I guess this is “pack on”), before the guys flick the lower switch, activating the interior lights (“wand on”)?

I’m just wondering if I’ve wired my Exoray kit incorrectly, since mine wants to do the bottom switch first, with interior lights on and no bargraph, or if anybody has rewired their own to make them work this way.

You haven’t wired yours wrong, Exoray’s instructions place the “power” switch as the lower of the two, with the “bar graph” switch being the upper of the two.

If neccesary, just swap the switch positions around.

Here’s a little write up I did in another thread ( found here) about what I have deduced of the functions of the switches on the props in the film.

So the easiest thing for you would be to just switches around where the switches are mounted, like Ben said. Honestly though, when it comes down to it, its all personal preference.

I might be “burned at the stake” for saying this, but I prefer the GB2 switch setup.

Hell I prefer GB2 period! :stuck_out_tongue:

I’m still trying to decide, myself. I don’t know… The GB1 setup seems like it’s overly complicated… I know it’s supposed to be a complex piece of equipment, but that’s just enough to give me a headache.

Plus, when you show off your stuff, isn’t it nicer when everything turns on with one switch?

Honestly, I think the electronics are the same in GB2. It looks like the “Activate” switch is the main kill switch for the wand. So if you have the vent on already, you just throw the “Activate” switch and all the lights come on. I can currently do this and yet still have the GB1 set up.

This is similar to how I have my prototype set up. The “activate” switch powers up the pack lights and if you have the lower body switch flipped, the vent/thrower lights come on, otherwise you can toggle them separately (“Prime your throwers, everyone!”) I use the upper switch as a kill switch for the Arduino so the batteries don’t drain when the system isn’t being used.

Back on my first pack, I programmed everything (Lights and sound) to come on with the “activate” switch. It was just cooler that way for onlookers. The top toggle to control the vent light. The bottom one was just a dummy I think. Anyway, I thought messing about with various switches just seemed too busy.
