I know there are a few threads on making the barrel extension mechanism but I was wondering if anyone nows how to go about doing the handle twist method?
I think I have an idea on how to do it, but wanted to see what ideas anyone might have. Also, is there a way to do the handle - twist method and the green lever method?
The best way for the twist method I think is to take a toilet paper holder that is spring loaded.. and add a notch that requires a turn to make it pop.. then mount that inside the handle.
One of the “knobs” on the Proton Gun.. is really a shaft collar. It is there to hold the rod of the level mechanism in place. It would be assumed there is an identical one inside the proton gun shell to keep it from slipping.
Yeah, so when its retracted the hook(aluminum piece) wouldnt be on top and extended it would be on the side of the clear tube. I dont think I would like that, I would always want it resting correctly.
I used the lever to do mine. There are a few pics of the mechanism in the thread by matt23matt.
It’s basically a piece of Kevlar thread that wraps around the brass shaft when you pull the lever down. This lifts a latch bar and releases the barrel. Not too tough to fabricate, plus it leaves a lot of room in the gun box for lights and stuff.
Does anybody know for sure if the “lever” is pushed or pulled to make the barrel extend? if it is pulled towards the person holding it, I believe it would be a very simple set-up to release the tube. If its pushed it would be much more complex…
If you know, or if you have a huge TV and can watch the part where Ray releases the barrel with his thumb, then speak up!!
I think it would be easy to make a small latch that gets pulled up by moving the lever, thus releasing the spring loaded tube. I will try this in the next gun i make. And if there is any call for it i can make a short tutorial on how i do it too? Ill document everything i do even the trial and error parts if anybodys interested.
are there any measurments for the length of the plexi tube once its extruded from the gun? I’ve seen some on ones that people have done themselves… But the still look too long to me… but maybe im wrong.
Think I’ll be able to make the mechanism, but it seems like it’s going to be very hard since the gun box is 3" wide and only opens from the bottom (for the track).
