Extreme Proton Pack

Hey does anyone have an explaination of how the Extreme Proton Pack works?

It was a cartoon.

the extreme proton pack worked nearly the same as the mach 1 proton pack from the original movies and series by using reverse charges and a proton stream to hold and essentially lasso an entity in place for entrapment.

the main difference was that the new equipment had a reloadable charge that could be reloaded on the spot rather than completely shutting down and recharging like the old packs, hence improving and lengthening the time in the field and stream lining the process a bit. The new packs and traps were also more powerful to fight more powerful entities, though the old packs still seem to work just fine.

All of this is of course an in universe explanation.

The real reason is that they had trouble securing licenses for the designs of the original equipment and characters.

Yeah cheers for that.

And thanks TAPS_Family_Anthony.

They must have come up with some arrangement for the equipment. They use the RGB proton packs in “Darkness At Noon”, “A Temporary Insanity”, and of course “Back In the Saddle”. The RGB PKE Meter appears in “Darkness At Noon” and the EGB Meter is only lightly modified from it–it still uses the same casing. The Ecto Containment Unit is virtually identical too. The ECTO-1, as I understand it, was more of an issue with not wanting to pay GM.

The characters, though, yeah, they obviously couldn’t get that. The four original Ghostbusters, Janine, and Slimer looked different from RGB; and in “A Temporary Insanity”, when Janine opens the glass case with a Venkman mannekin in it, the face is digitized out.

As they put it in a book I read, “Intellectual Properties Lawyers are a low species of life” :whatever:

I wondered only if there was some sort of lore with it that someone had created, basically there isnt much to the pack, it has that gaurd that holds the Canisters, and a couple of boxes.

Damn them copyright rules eh,

Well, this is how it worked in my head. Take it or leave it as you will…

The old movie/RGB packs (within the continuity of the shows, they’re the same thing, per “Take Two”) didn’t have the power necessary to affect Achira. So Egon came up with a new configuration that could hit harder, at least for a short amount of time.

Think of the original pack like one big battery. Now think of the EGB pack like a set of smaller batteries linked together.

The larger battery will last longer, but it’s output is more steady. The parallel small batteries are easier to adjust the charge, and can emit (in this case) a greater charge for a small amount of time. The EGB pack is basically a little more versatile.

Just like when your flashlight starts to go dim, you can switch the batteries in it and it gets stronger again, you can switch the plasma core on the thrower to temporarily boost the power.

In my mind, at least, the Proton Pistol (Kylie’s weapon) then, would just be one small battery, and it wouldn’t quite have the stopping power or payload of the full pack. It’s advantage is that it’s lighter and easier to use, and for the average “zap and trap” job, the ones so easy that episodes aren’t usually made about them, it does the trick.

(In the fan fics, we eventually decided that the plasma cores burned out and stopped holding charges quicker than the original packs, with their “five thousand year half-life”, and the Ghostbusters switch to an upgraded cyclotron-based pack, a version more like the movie/RGB style pack using the latest technology, about six years after EGB)

Ahh Fritz you are a legend.

Personally any explanation is up for grabs but one thing is certain, the artists at Sony or however drew and then colored the show, were morons who didn’t care much. Every episode has easily noticable mistake whether it be wrong proportions, miscolor, mirror image, etc. When the RGB equipment is drawn perfectly it is acutally stock stills from the old days and sometime they did an okay job. I understand the color needed to be faded but why never a ghost trap attached? Makes sense I suppose for the first attack on Achira but why did Ray reach behind his belt rather than where the trap would normally be? And did the RGB proton stream become the XGB after the pilot for the RGB equipment? Laziness is what I equate all these problems to.

A few of us recently had a ‘interesting’ debate in a topic when someone came along and not only said that the XGB packs were made out of the RGB ones (the completely different appearance was just a bunch of new bolted-on panels), but that the RGB ones didn’t appear in the show after Darkness at Noon. :sigh:

Well the big thing is that no one once to accept that YES the old GB 1 packs CAN be outdated, even if “the power cell have a half life of 5 thousand years,” what about the rest of the pack o_O ~!? and JUST LIKE IN THE GAME if they ever make a ghostbusters 3 or remake PLEASE EVERYONE REALIZE THEY WILL MAKE NEW EQUIPMENT FOR THE MOVIE~! I can almost guarantee it~! as much as we do love the old equipment, I think they can make a better (even a bit safer XD ) un-lisened nuclear accelerator with 2010 technology. Sooo bashing the EGB equipment just cause it doesn’t look as cool or cause you don’t ~get it~ is pointless. I mean come on, of corse the cartoonist who designed them weren’t liscened Engineers, or scientists, but atleast they tried :D.
