Factory Ent. Venkman Shakem Head Sculpt Sneak Peak!

Hi All -

Thought you might enjoy this - Resculpting the Venkman face today for our Shakems and wanted to post an in progress pic…

I never show the digital sculpts because they can be kinda strange to look at, but just keep in mind this is face only - Hair, ears, etc.. will be added later!

What do you think?

Looks good so far, thank you for sharing.

Again - keep in mind - This will be VERY small in the end  Like 13mm wide

I like the side profile view.

I’ll have to wait until it’s colored to be able really see him though.

Thats why I dont show this stage a lot - hard to tell whats going on when its all grey! I need another texasbuster color treatment

Quick color

TylerH, thanks a million my brother, Venkman is looking just as good as Stanz. Once again pal, thanks for always keeping us on the up and up.

It certainly doesn’t look bad, however I’d reference his Life Mask to point out areas for improvement, if such improvements are to be made.

(Holy hell, that’s a huge image!)

That looks more like Peter Lore than Bill Murray  Life masks are freaky looking!

Hahaha, Yeah, they are. However, it brings up several issues, which could be fixed before the final sculpt is made.

  1. Make the nostrils and bridge of the nose wider.

  2. Bring up the mouth a bit

  3. Bring up the chin, making the jaw-line weaker

  4. Over-hang his brow to create the interesting fold he’s always had

  5. taper the inward slope of the eye socket, so the indents surrounding the eyes are less squared-off

Once again, I like the original design, these are simply things you may want to look into.

For additional reference, I would consider using a lot of images from Ghostbusters: The Video Game, as they had to render the exact same thing as you, and were very successful in the accuracy of the model.

This is probably a better way to compare the sculpt to the actors face - Albeit, a goofy looking way…

I went through the same thing when looking at the mouth - - it looks WAY to low… So I raised it - But then I lowered it again because even though it LOOKED right, it wasnt right… Its a really strange optical illusion - - Please dont take this as me saying "Well I think the sculpt is perfect… " etc.. totally not and I appreciate critique (I mean, it is WIP) - But this is probably a better example:

Im also adding that forehead between-the-eyes wrinkle before sending it to the printer

I know these screen shots look goofy, but I reworked him a bit…

Is getting Bill Murray’s approval gonna be a problem, or did he already sign off on his likeness?

Also I just want to say that working with this community to try to give us the best product possible is really appreciated, especially after dealing with a certain other company who couldn’t care less for three years or so.

In reference to this pic…Murray doesn’t have a cleft chin. At leady not in the lifecast or pic shown here.

Oh my God you are right. Hahaha. I’m working on a simultaneous sculpt with a character with a crazy cleft chin and it must have just been on my mind. Ha. Thanks. :).

TylerH, I think the number 1 problem with this peter is that his upper lip has to droop downward, you know, the cheeks and larea like on the life cast

The new slimer looks like an excellent version, but this just leaves me cold, looking far too generic to me.

The basic shape of the head doesn’t look right at all to me, the front cheeks don’t look right, the nose looks like it should be wider, just lots of things adding up to something bland.

I don’t really see Murray at all in it. Are they working in zbrush?

Ill post some new pics soon!!! Its getting there - Just a hard likeness to really get right

Also, the 3D renders are really odd looking compared to the prints.. Ill post some more progress soon!

You also have him smiling, and he usually has a deadpan “straight man” frown. That might be part of the problem.

I’m guessing mudbox or sculptris though. (With zbrush you usually see the default 'red clay" material.)
