… in 1984, the 4 Ghostbusters were not able to finish off Gozer?
This idea came to me a few years ago, in a time I still was reading some Comics… maybe someone knows “Elseworld” or “What if…” from DC Comics
So I interpreted it for Ghostbusters and well, I am planing to make this a project for the huge fan-community.
Idea, story line, plot, stuff which I thought about:
Crossing the streams was a terrible mistake when challenging Gozer, the huge explosion did not close the portal to the ghost-dimension, it spread the portal wider, wretching a huge leak between our world and the “paranormal” world
In this explosion, only 1 Ghostbuster survived and was able to escape…
Over the next 40 years, earth was terrorized over and over by more and more ghosts, demons, supernatural phenomenas etc…
Some humans changed sides, became posessed, and million of peoples died in the fight against the threat
Now in 2014, humans are living in so called “containment-cities” or “grid-cities” which are protected by proton-shields.
Each city has a Ghostbusters Squadron with improved equipment.
Huge Proton Blasters, Tanks with Proton Missiles, and improved Proton Packs with modernised traps are used
The center of the paranormal threat is above the old building, where Dana Barrets apartement was, over 40 years ago… showing a huge dimensional portal crossing the sky and lighting over the city.
So that’s it for now… more ideas coming - and I hope you support me with some own ideas
I’ll also do some sketches and stuff… not sure if I write a story or do a comic etc… but one thing is sure:
Well, what you’ve got sounds like an interesting idea, though I’m not sure about the idea of killing off three of the team. I totaly understand the idea, but it seems a little extreme. I would play around with some other ideas and see if anything has “just popped in there.” When I wrote my fanfilm, I originally had one of the team die–but the more I read through it and changed things here and there, the more I hated the idea of killing any member of the team. It just didn’t sit right with me as a fan.
I really like the idea of the Ghostbusters technology being retrofitted into a defence system. I think the guys would do everything they could to help out in this scenario. This kind of reminds me of the original idea for GB3 about the alternate New York in Hell.
No, I understand your position. I was just thinking about having them die in 1984, on top of the building. I think it would be better to have them die off one at a time as time unfolds around them. That way, the technology can be enhanced by the original founders and passed off to people they feel are worthy enough to continue the franchise.
Obviously, these scenes will be the key turning points in the narrative you are telling, so I’d think about how to handle them delicately and with some passion. And if you think about it, Egon was really the only one who knew the technical aspects of the proton pack/trap/cotainment unit–Ray was an expert on the occult, and Peter was a psychology/parapsychology guy. So really, Egon would have to be the natural choice to keep the technology going.
Ok, tried to work over some screenshots to give you an impression what I was thinking of… own paintings to come this week I hope.
Grid City Alpa 01 - New York:
Just to give you an idea
Nothing more.
The different Grid Cities are protected via a special protonic network that is hanging over the city, feeded with energy from a fusion generator on the inside.
It works like the old containment unit in Ghostbusters I and II, only that now it doesn’t keep ghosts trapped in the inside, it keeps them on the outside
Ah, I see. Like a giant ameoba. I was thinking more of the laser grid with a giant box-shapped thing over the city, which used mirrors to angle the beams.
I like this aspect of your story. It seems like something from an anime show or something…was it Big-O that had these cities in bubbles? Not really a fan, so I can’t remember.
that sounds pretty good, that could work. “Final Fantasy: the Spirits Within” had the exact kind of layout, that seems like the best way to do it, in fact those pics look like screen shots from the movie, i haven’t seen it in awhile so i can’t be sure, but oh well. will it be a set of ecclectic characters that come out of the squandron ranks trying to prove themselves? or some guys who had special training
yes I agree…it sounds exactly like final fantasy: Spirits within…except that you threw in a ghostbuster. I always thought about toying with the idea of little Oscar. He’s now grown up and completely messed up. Having 4 substitute father figures, he’s gained the best qualities of each (but doesnt realize it). Somethings totally gone wrong and now its time for Oscar to take control. Who’s his sidekick? Louis Tully of course! I always saw Luke Wilson playing Oscar Barret.
I agree. I saw Wilson in “Idiocracy” and think that he’s a really good actor with a lot of range. I think he could handle a role where he has attributes of all four GBs, and a little neurosis thrown in for flavor. But do we really make the character so old, the first time we see him? What about a teenage situation where he’s haunted by memories of Vigo, but he doesn’t know who he is–like just a slice of the villain was implanted in him? Then, we could place him in an adult situation, which would prove he’s capable of handling a paranormal event. I would then feel comfortable having him being an adult.
Wouldn’t Louis be really old when Oscar is an adult? I like the dichotomy of the crazy old man and the young man as a team–and Louis could “Geeze-out” on him from time to time, creating some comedic moments. But as a sidekick, I’m not sure. It might be better for Louis to be the crazy old man who lives in the firehouse and has some great moments of sanity when the plot calls for it. I kind of like the idea of Oscar being an adult and being a loner…kind of a Peter-like character, but with Egon’s brains, and Ray’s sweetness–and Winston’s philosophy (“If there’s a steady paycheck in it, I’ll believe anything you tell me.”).
