As far as liquor, the best thing I’ve ever tasted is some stuff called poitín (Irish moonshine) shared with me by durgan at a Dragon*Con years past, but good luck finding it. Aside from that, give me gin or bourbon, straight.
What I really love is beer. The darker and higher gravity the better. If I can see through it and can’t taste the alcohol, I don’t want it.
I don’t really drink, but when I do and can afford it I like sake. Usually I have to wait until I’m out west to get good stuff (there’s an Asian/international market in ABQ that has a whole aisle full of varying prices and qualities…most expensive bottle I’ve seen there was $80). Or plum wine (don’t eat the plums).
Gekkeikan (or whatever the low-end sake you can find in grocery stores is) isn’t too horrible, but I mainly just use it for cooking.
Now that it’s nice and hot (mutter mutter, grumble), I’ve been enjoying mint juleps. Mint, sugar, and ice are about the only things I want mixed with my bourbon, and even then only when it’s above 85°F outside.
I honestly don’t think there’s anything better to make you forget about the heat.
As of this past weekend, I currently have no favorite drink. It’ll go back to normal eventually, but when you go from being asleep to waking up in a shower wondering how you got there…alcohol doesn’t seem too appealing. Could have been worse, though
