Today is the first time wearing my GB gear. Had not attached the yellow tube, as I accidentally stepped on it!
My godson begged me to put it all on. At ten years old, he’s the biggest GB fan. Had no time to iron the flight suit, make belt/shoulder adjustments or comb my beard. Xavier’s heart is leaning towards photography and I’m his first victim . . .uh, subject.
As I mentioned in other post, I have no plans wearing the Proton Pack. I’m satisfied with what I have.

I do have The Creeper ensemble from
Jeepers Creepers. Probably go with that.
The beard looks fine. It gives you a unique look. Don’t be nervous going out in public in full GB get gear. There are more fans than you think that will compliment you on the GB costume.
My fellow GBs and son will go out in full GB gear to some unsuspecting restaurant. We will act normally, like we are on out lunch break. It will sometimes make the workers and restaurant customers confused if we are for real or if we are in costume.
I agree about the beard, adds a depth of character to your look, I say keep it! Looking great, man!

As a bearded man myself, I say keep it!!! 
I also second what Goldenhawk said. I love going out to restaurants in full gear on the way to or from events and getting the confused, to happy, to just plain giddy responses from people. Makes it all the more fun!
When faced with the option to be bearded or beardless, bearded is clearly the way to go!
You can adjust the shoulder straps to be a lot more comfortable and natural looking. Make them looser in the front and tighter in the back and it won’t ride against your neck and it’ll more closely resemble proton pack straps. You can also clip them directly to your pistol belt to help hold up all your gear.
One trick I used to make my costume stand out is a lubricant from Lowes. It’s Ideal brand clear wire pull lubricant, sold in the electrical aisle. It dries clear and has no smell and it gets a great reaction. I wore some to a restaurant on Halloween last year and made the waitress gag. It was great.

One question what is the yellow round thing on the belt? I have been surfing the forum for a while and haven’t seen it before. It looks cool and I might want to add it in lieu of a lifeguard.

The “round thingy” is a Power Flare PF 210 has many options. It comes in
different color protective cases and I chose the green flashing
light. I use it only during those events at night to help fellow
“ghouls” find me in an instant, especially for my grand/god
children.
If you take a good look at my Nomex, you’ll see the black
zippers. Purchased a CASEMate Gold Metallic Marker from
Walmart and will be painting zippers for more screen accuracy.
Over the years, I’ve had good luck with metallic markers. I’ve used
a silver marker for my inside zippers on the Corcoran 10" 1585
jump boots.
