I’m starting work on drafting the pattern for a flight suit [coveralls of any variety have never fit well, so I’m just going to sew one up on my own] However, as a curiosity, I wanted to know how general ghostbuster costumers view wearing the flight suit as a more fitted piece instead of loose as it’s done in the movies, games, etc. It’s not something that particularly bothers me, but as a new ghostbuster costume type person who likes to know the various opinions of others.. well, I’m interested to know.
I’m definitely not talking along the lines of the licensed woman’s gb Halloween costume from years back, as that’d just be horrible. Just a general better, more feminine, fit to the suit.
It works either way. I tend to like the more fitted look on some of the female busters but others pull off the more traditional look just as well. I think most can agree the slutty look is just that, slutty and dumb; if you wanna do a serious costume its not gonna work (but for fun hell do what you want). If you want to split the difference a small flight suit can get kinda form fitting in areas while maintaining the traditional flight suit look.
please move to orlando florida and marry me. fire is apart of my favorite jla team ever. i can cook. and clean. and wash windows. i’ll even mow the lawn. i think we could get along pretty well. i make dc comics props all the time.
it was in this topic about authentic vs sexy costumes.
it would save you alot of work, and you can mod it to look like a flight suit.
or are you working on doing a whole shebang flight suit? you could go the route and make it fit to you, not so much form fit, but pretty close. looking at your costumes you have a lot of talent.

hmmm well to me the GB uniform is a exactly that, a uniform, meant for function above fashion. so in my opinion the flightsuit should fit the girls just the same as it fits the guys in the films etc.
and plus i think "fitted" flightsuits just look wrong.
Looking through that thread… what I wanted is exactly how the tru-spec fits on, for example, donkeypunch. I think maybe my ‘fitted’ might’ve been understood in the context of super visible darts, zipper that hovers way below the decent look and fabric that’s not ripstop. At least.. if it was, that’s definitely not what I want.
I just know that me with my weird girl shapes wont fit into a flightsuit the same as everyone else. I think it was mentioned somewhere in that thread that while wanting to be screen accurate, you do want to look decent and since wearing a regular flight suit would probably entail the inseam being at mid thigh for me. I think, in all, I’m just worried about showing up at dragon con with my screen accurate in everything but a more tailored fit to my flight suit, and feeling all out of place and upset. I’ve encountered fandoms where just one thing like that would mean being absolutely ostracized… and it’s just not something I enjoy… or anyone really. It’s why I ask now. XD don’t want to end up spending all this time on this costume and pack to get upset and cast it aside because I feel out of place.
And protoncharger- lol Fire is awesome. and making DC props is even cooler. But sadly there is to be no marriage. I love Texas too much to leave it. :vinzclortho:
theres only one group on here that i know of (the AZGBs) that has uniform standards, but no large international group with standards like the 501st, and a lot of fan’s costumes suffer in the quality/authenticity department because of that.
I would advise you to go the route Kay(■■■■■■■■■■■■) chose and buy a tru-spec and have it taken in slightly, just enough that it hugs where it should and hangs where its needed.
You seem normal enough from your pic, these weird “girl shapes” are that you are referring to . . . weird is not the word i would use
believe me, as long as you show up in something better than a ■■■■-colored, baggy Rothco suit, you’ll be fine
I really wouldn’t worry about feeling weird or left out. Considering there was never a female Ghostbuster in the films you’re not going against anything. Until Ghostbusters 3 comes out and shows us how a female GB actually looks, feel free to take liberties and use your own interpretation. I think fitted would look a lot better than baggy.
Ahaha. Weird girl shapes are euphemisms for.. you know.. real girl shapes. And this is all good to hear! I’ve been around the various costuming circuits for a while- and sadly there’s alot of kicking people out based on.. things like how many grommet holes are in their boots. I like that here from what it seems you offer critique and let people know how to make things more accurate.. but there’s not the ‘well you can’t hang out with us’ mentality. Quite mature.. and definitely something I want to be involved with.
But “oh my goodness y’all are neat” aside… thanks for helping me clarify in what I wanted. Kay’s tru-spec suit is definitely what I wanted and while I’m still going to make mine [so that there’s accommodation for my giant inseam and I can use this glorious ripstop that I will dye] It’s helpful to have that to look at.
■■■■ colored suits do sound mighty invitin’ though.. and baggy? OH LA LA. where do I sign up? /teasin’
I know its stylized, but you might wanna take a look at screenshots of the female buster in the Wii GB game. I thought the way they had her wear it looked good. It seems more fitted.
