AWESOME!!!
So when will one of these be available to purchase, and what do you think you’d be charging?
Really impressed with the results! This is a great idea to get decent looking packs to people at a low price without looking gimmicky. Of course a full on build will be better, but I can see there being a big market for these at least within the community.
What’s the weight like?
Speaking of market for one. I’d love to own one, all I’d need to do is add the lights and sound board and with the money I could save with this pack, I’d be able to afford the lights and sound board
Fully 3D printed proton pack progress pic
Next is to install the electronics and add the decals to the thrower.
And to adjust the ribbon cable
I like, but if I may ask, why no putty filler on the seams of the cyclotron? The shade of paint is so dark though it is hard to make out those details
All that’s left is the electronics install
Ok seriously, I want one really bad, and I bet this would be easier on my back and legs than a standard pack, with my nerve condition. How much? Please tell me you’ll be making more!
It’s just under 15 lbs. I can pick it up and hold it over my head with one arm. I should prob post a pic of that…
See super light weight. You still haven’t said if you’ll be making more, and if so how much? I want to get on that list asap if you are
In the possible progress of figuring out the details right now. If I do you’ll def see a post about it.
Stay tuned
I am also super interested in being on this list lol
It’s cool that this is 3d-printed and all, but it’s so disappointing to see that you didn’t bother to smooth any of the lines from the model or the printer. Especially given how much work must’ve gone into piecing this together.
I actually appreciate that (other than the color) this is pretty much exactly how it came out of the printer. It gives me more appreciation for what what you’ve accomplished with the technology without cleaning up any of the drawbacks.
Wouldn’t it be a more impressive demonstration of the capabilities of the medium if it looked like a real, working proton pack (with that sign there to blow people away), rather than looking like cobbled together plastic? Yes, the drawbacks scream “3d-printed”, but leaving them also says “this was created with yet to be perfected technology”, rather than saying “you can really bring anything to life with this technology.”
if you decide to sell these I would def. be interested… plus I live in Maine so I could probably come pick it up, save on shipping ![]()
Seeing this a couple of weeks ago inspired me to print my own. I’ve been printing for about a week and a half and still have lots of work to do.
Cyclotron, Synch Generator, main part of the thrower as well as a few other pieces are printed (still needs a lot more sanding).
I’m using a MakerBot Replicator, 5th Gen. I have used almost three .90kg spools of black PLA so far.
Depending on the part, I’m varying the layer height anywhere between .1mm and .3mm to speed up printing. The Cyclotron supports and the Synch Generator are mostly hidden in when done, so those are at a lower res.
I’m printing a raft under all parts. I then take the raft and melt it with a cheap soldering iron into the seams to weld all of the seams together. Then sand with 80 grit sandpaper, followed by a sheetrock sanding block.
Hey im just a little curious, i just ordered the same parts you used, and i notice a small piece behind the front grip that you have i dont have that and im curious what that is!
