I decided for my Thanksgiving break that I would have a go at building Egon’s stethoscope from the first movie. I started with a pair of real Infinity Imtimate Stereo headphones that I found on Ebay (this picture is from the seller, as I apparently forgot to take one before building)
Next I bought a cheap stethoscope from Walgreens
’I then pulled them out of their metal connector so they could stretch like the SU pair. I don’t have the tools to make the accurate brackets for the headphones, so I found a cheap and simple solution at Ace that I think is pretty good. Because they’re flat, adding a more accurate piece on top will be nice and easy if I can ever make them.
The SU headphones are a dark color (black maybe) with a light colored (maybe white) inner “disk”. I chose to color mine with aluminum spray paint, because not only does that make my pair look more accurate, but the color better matches the metal pieces for the stethoscope than white.
The ball joint on one of the headphones had broken off. I don’t plan on wearing these often, so I just drilled into the headphone and epoxied a rod into the headphone and the ball joint to repair it. I also epoxied on the brackets for the stethoscope.
While I was waiting for a full cure, I put on new earphone covers. They’re just medium covers from Radio Shack. Much to my surprise, they fit great. FInally, once the epoxy had cured, I added the rubber stethoscope piece.
This leaves me with two things left to do, and two questions.
First: When comparing my stethoscope to Egon’s, I realized his is much longer than mine. There’s a silver piece in the middle, and it looks like that’s some sort of connector for two tubes. Does anyone have any ideas as to what would work for that?
Also, I mean to replace the stethoscope head with the accurate conical piece. For the cone, I’ll be following RedVirtue’s example, but the base looks a lot bigger. My plan was to hit something up with plastidip, but I had problems something finding something the right disk-like shape. Any suggestions?
