GB1 heat sink..

Hey guys, I’ve been debating this for awhile so I thought I’d bring the debate here and see what you guys think and maybe figure this thing out together as i’m still undecided. For sometime we’ve always thought the GB1 heat sink had straight edges and that the GB2 heat sinks were curved.

The only indication that I have found for the GB1 heat sink not having curved edges is the heat em up scene.

Personally in this picture I don’t see any indication that they are curved, but lighting, angle, and camera quality can be deceiving, so I don’t want to base the decision off this one picture.

Now at the Sony lot we have the same exact hero wand on display with curved eges…

and also the PH hero wand also has the curved eges as seen here…

Now could this of been a modification done specifically for GB2? Were the edges never straight? Did they curve due to wear and use? (I doubt it), If anyone can shed some light or maybe find some other GB1 HD reference pics that would be great also.

I believe they did that modification to be more actor friendly, as heat sink corners tend to be very sharp. If that’s the case I would assume most if not all of the packs were modified for that use.

You can already tell the wand from the first image has been altered based on the replaced or cleaned up gun knobs.

I love that theory. But it’s true that the evidence of straight edges is sorely lacking.

Also same wand as pictured here:

So at least one of the packs did have right angle edges on them. I’m willing to bet all the Ghost Buster’s packs did modified for the second movie to fit safety demands (like the reduced weight of packs as well).

Higher res pic you can see the waves:

I honestly think they did it for safety as Dan said. I recently was playing with the front handle of my thrower while I was test fitting some pieces. My entire thrower is made of aluminum with parts from jpa35, umoribawar & cpu64. I was twisting the front handle back and forth and almost slit my wrist on the front of my guntrack. It had a REALLY sharp edge so I ended up sanding it down a little. You can barely tell the difference while looking at it but it made a big difference.

The heatsink might not be in as “dangerous” of a spot but I imagine that they wouldn’t want any real sharp edges on any props when it can be avoided.

I forgot about the production pic you can pretty clearly tell in that pic the heat sink edges weren’t rounded and after looking at the Sony pic it does kind of look like the edges were filed down. Thanks for the help.

Yeah and they probably weren’t even repainted afterwards. These things were works of art they were butchered for GB2, and it’s really sad.

I really understand the modifications to the props. Working in theater gives you an interesting perspective to just how dumb actors can get around hand props, the proton pack is no different.

While it’s awful they destroyed original packs to “update” them I do like the GBII pack’s modifications. The heat sinks rounded edges take some bite away from and otherwise box like prop. But I still like the GB one better.
