i really have no idea how this movie can work without the full cast, anything is possible but i just can’t quite place what would work? either way if they did do it, i think they need to acknowledge the characters death too as a tribute to Ramis
I think if the script is good they should green light it. Harold would have wanted that. I know it sounds bad bringing this sort of thing up so soon. But I think the project has been waiting far too long.
Massive fan of Murray but he needs to step up and do this thing. And if Sony doesn’t green light it in this meeting with Rietman then I think Dan and everyone needs to let it go. I want an anouncement in the next month or two lol
now you see that is the flip side, if Harold wanted this shouldn’t everyone (including you Murray) make that effort to fulfil this wish and make it the best god damn sequel it can be?

I tend to cringe when I see people say stuff like that. How do we know what Harold would have wanted? To me people are projecting what they want, onto the memory of Harold. I just don’t remember hearing or seeing any interviews from Harold stating anything positive or negative in terms of GBIII. I think the only thing I can remember is him saying something along the lines of “Yea Danny has a script and is trying to get it going”. I think Dan would want it to be made but I really don’t know what Harold’s stance is. I don’t recall him ever being an activist for GBIII.
No matter what he would have wanted, I really do feel that it is SO soon after his passing to even begin asking questions about GBIII. I feel if the people who are asking “What’s going to happen with GBIII?!” to the other actors are pretty selfish and not showing any empathy (I’m looking at you TMZ when interviewing Ernie). Let everyone mourn the loss, and pay respect to Harold and his family, before talking about a silly movie that hasn’t happened in 20 years. Bringing up GBIII so soon to me is like asking what’s going to happen to something belonging to them. It just doesn’t feel like the right time to worry about it.
I know Harold wanted GB3 because he talked about it in interviews. Same as Dan. As long as they were passing the torch tho. He didn’t want them to be making an ‘indie 4’ type of movie. I do agree. It is too soon to be talkin bout this stuff so im not saying anymore. Guess we’ll have to see what happens

They belong here but they could have been put on hold for a week or two. It’s like if you asked what would happen to Jimi Hendrix’s guitar the day after he died because you wanted to buy it. It’s usually in good taste to let things to settle out of respect. Of course everyone has their own way of grieving so my thoughts may not resonate to others.
People are sooo desperate for a 3rd film they really don’t care whether commenting in this thread so soon after Ramis passing is appropriate or not.
Comments like “they should do it for Harold” are so inappropriate it’s not funny, very much wreaks of emotional blackmail to me. People are using any excuse to move gb3 forward even if it might no longer be appropriate anymore.
Saying comments like Bill Murray should step up is silly. After the passing of Ramis the actor’s may not want to even contemplate the notion of doing a sequel which is something Ernie has already eluded to. It has always up to Bill if he wanted to do another movie, If he doesn’t that’s his business, he certainly doesn’t owe anybody anything, knowing Murray we are all pretty lucky we got one sequel in the first place let alone the game.
I could also say the opposite argument that it would be more respectful to Mr Ramis if Ghostbusters 3 was shelved and just left alone.
Your part of the problem. I dont find it funny and I find it very distasteful to try to make light of the situation. The fact that these threads popped up and continue to actually converse about the third movie being made just makes me sick. There should have been ZERO GB3 talk this soon after Ramis’ passing. The talk really could have waited for some time to have passed.
I in no way meant to offend anyone. If I have I am truely sorry. We are all GB fans here and I meant no disrespect to anyone here or The Ramis family and friends. The passing of Mr Ramis has been the first time someone I don’t know has affected me on a deep emotional level. I commented in this thread because the news that a second sequel to Harold and Dan’s baby could still live on…and that made me smile for the first time this week.

I think a new movie would be inappropriate now. Everyone always thinks bill murray is the main ghostbuster because in movie terms he gets the girl etc etc. However harold ramis works out they can actually catch ghosts, invents all of the equipment, at some point in the first film he uses every piece of equipment, he tells venkman how much to charge for their first bust, he soley figures out how to defeat gozer and he gets the girl. Now for just a supposedly side character compared to murray that’s a hell of a big hole to fill. Trying to fill the void that harold has sadly left behind is like trying to replace a marshmallow man with an angry painting. In my opinion I think that around 2009/early 2010 all the original cast were on board for a new film but when harold got ill things obviously changed. Everyone blames bill murray but I like to think that he was taking the flak to protect his old friends privacy. I apologise if any of what I have said is viewed as disrespectful, harold ramis was a massive part of my life. When I was a child I wouldn’t answer to my parents unless they called me egon. I feel like I’ve lost an old friend and I certainly don’t want to see some of his lifes work ruined by money grabbing executives that he sought to ridicule in his films.
I did an interview with Ernie Hudson a couple of years ago and I asked him what he thought of third movie and he was like…ya I’d love to but no one’s ever asked me. I kinda like what he said to TMZ about Harold’s passing and GB3. Then again…I’m a Zeddemore groupie so anything he says I go along with!
Growing up, I chose Egon over Peter because there were a lot of things that I could connect with through that character. As I got older, I starting studying film and here I am today as an independent filmmaker all because of Harold Ramis. I personally feel that GB3 should be made but they need to find the correct way to do it. Dan Aykroyd has done this with Blues Brother 2000 so I do think it can be done but the characters need to interact with the concept that Egon has passed on.
I haven’t wanted a GB III since Blues Brothers 2000 in 1998. I say this because that was back when it wasn’t too late for the actors to have acted in the movie without looking too old or around the bend. I also have a feeling that when that movie didn’t do so well, Blues Brothers being another brainchild of Aykroyd’s, Sony got cold feet and dropped GB III into the 10th Level of Development Hell. Remember the DVD filmography pages listing Dan as having been in GB III at the time?

-Ernie didn’t want to do GB III unless they were all in it together.
-Dan is an unreliable source regarding the progress of the entire thing.
-Ivan has mentioned rebooting the franchise.
-Sony, like any major corporation, just wants money.
At this point, GB: TVG is GB III. Anything else that follows theatrically shouldn’t count.
I think it’s ill of you to tell anyone that it’s not okay to discuss GB3 so soon, and yet it seems on the other hand you find it okay to tell someone how to grieve.
If you feel that it’s disrespectful to discuss GB3, then why wouldn’t you simply not take part in the discussion?

I’d like to weigh in on this. The question is, can Ghostbusters III be a satisfying and worthy sequel without Harold Ramis involvement? I think it’s certainly possible. If the script is sharp enough and the story offers some new characters which are likeable and interesting to help fill the void then I think it has every chance of pleasing the fans. Of course, It’ll feel very different without Ramis but it can still be good in a different way depending on who else is in it.
I’d also like to add that I don’t think the story should shy away from stating that Spengler has passed away. I think the third film should acknowledge Spenglers death but not get too sentimental about it. Have a scene where Venkman, Stantz and Zeddemore talk about how they miss him and what a genius he was and then move on. It could even be written as a funny scene.
The franchise rights alone will make them rich beyond their wildest dreams.
