GB3 still moving forward

The implication was rather clear. I was referring to you telling someone on the previous page they were “part of the problem” when they expressed how they felt about GB3, and then you tell another person to “hold on to that and smile”… Get off your high horse, dude.

I’m going to restate a point I made earlier.

Egon does not have to be dead in GB3 (if it were to happen).

I, too, agree that it was way too soon to hear about GB3 plans, but that was in entertainment news…no one on the board jumped the gun, the studios let that news out.

That being said, I don’t think GB3 should even happen. Not having a major player as part of the film would stink in general…no Bill would be annoying, but we’d see it and deal with it, knowing he wasn’t in the film because he wasn’t interested. Not having a major player because they have passed away is not a good idea at all and a whole different ballgame (BB2K anyone?) because there is an inherent sadness that will come watching the film, knowing why a beloved character is not present. Whether Egon has passed away or is simply somewhere else, the audience would know the real reason.

Again, and I can’t stress this enough, Egon should not die within GB canon. The movies need to be left alone. Maintain the comics as they are, and enjoy the memories we have. Harold Ramis has left us…Egon does not need to.

Sorry, I didn’t intend for apathy to have crept into my comment. The ■■■■ gif probably didnt help. Hey, I loved Harold Ramis too. The guy was awesome. No disrespect meant at all. But he’s also a celebrity whom I’ve had no interaction with and I’m disassociated from. It would be un-genuine of me to pretend that I wept and I can’t go on. I was shocked though. It’s a huge loss for comedy and for us fans. It just feels like with the death of Ramis GB3 shouldn’t be off limits to talk about is all. There was plenty of talk about GB3 happening without Bill Murray, who’s still alive. I think it’s kind of really the same thing in a way.

It’s difficult. If you had the job of writing the screenplay for Ghostbusters III would you have Spengler dead? Would you write that he emigrated? Bring him back as a ghost? I think I’d be truthful and say that he died however I wouldn’t necessarily do so for the comic series, video games or any animated series due to the fact that Egon can easily be drawn/created, unlike a third film where you’d need Ramis present.

As I said in my first post, I’d leave it alone. If there’s a third film, have the new 'busters established–they’ve been at it a few years, something happens, Ray helps out a bit–“oh hey Dr. Stantz, we haven’t seen you since you handed over the keys to the fire house” (I am not suggesting that as legitimate dialogue)–very much the way they did with Star Trek: The Next Generation. We don’t need to see the new GBs become GBs…in fact they should focus on a new franchise in another city…leave the original in NY, keep quiet on the original 4, and have Ray/Winston show up to make sure the new branch is doing well.

No one will want to participate in this without Mr. Ramis.

Egon finally got it together with Janine of course and lived happily ever after

I think most people are over the idea of a sequel by now, the odds are stacked up against this being at all good. You never know though, a new generation could work out, with smaller roles for the remaining players (Ray a consulting Occult expert? Peter the company CEO? Winston the field leader/trainer?) Feeling strangely optimistic about it all. I guess it’s been in limbo for so long that I no longer have any expectations or fears of failure.

Bill Murray’s idea of playing a ghost would seem horribly morbid in this context, so I’d hope it would be dropped.

Really grateful we got the game.

While a part of me would still like to see this movie made, just so i can finally say “they did it” after a decade and a half of development hell, and it also be nice to finish what Harold started.

The other part of me says “why?”, whats the point? Without Ramis on board ( who in my opinion, holds the most integrity of the rights holders ) i feel this is going to slither into being a “studio” film, rather an actual project, if that makes sense. From what ive read/seen of harolds interviews, hes a guy who stuck to his guns, having a distaste for soulless blockbuster explosion films. Which is what GB3 may turn into without him in the Producer and Writer seats. As Hudson recently stated, “he was the glue of the franchise, and it wouldnt be the same without him.”

Not to mention, the man has passed, just leave his legacy alone and let it live on the way its always been. Be respectful of his art.

I found it sick and disgusting, that after Harolds surpising and tragic passing, all the sony producers could think was “well, call Ivan so we can see what to do with the third movie”. Have they no heart? This is the same studio that rebooted Spiderman just a few years after the last Raimi sequel (regardless of its quality..and is that what people do now? A film in a series is mediocre, so just overhaul the whole franchise, instead of just trying again with a better installment?), not to mention they have plans to release a new Spidey film every year (quantity over quality, anyone?) . I dunno about you, but that sounds like a harbinger of doom if GB3 is made and becomes a monster at the box office.

On the other hand, perhaps im wrong, and Harolds passing is what propells the powers that may be to give this film more heart and sentiment toward the production, and making it the best film they can. But thats just wishful thinking.

I think there is one very vital aspect that everyone has forgotten. Forget the storyline, forget the fact Harold is gone… forget everything relating to new GBs.

Let me point something out that will show GB 3 is a complete no go:

80’s New York. It’s dirty, the people are rude and the Hip Hop scene is just emerging, as acts like Bobby Brown, Grand Master Flash and Run DMC start to become household names. The backdrop to GB 1 & 2 added to the charm - a place that seemed “doomed” but with a small element of hope, both in terms of the GBs and the upbeat music.

**2010’s New York. **It’s clean, the people are a bit more politically correct and today’s music consists of Dubstep re-mixes and Justin Bieber.

Can you honestly imagine a Ghostbusters 3 with a Dubstep OST and a bunch of yuppies running around, updating every bust via Twitter? How would the remaining 3 original GBs fit into this? Are we going to have loads of gags where the youth take the mick out of the older ones because they can’t figure out Facebook and listen to old “crappy” music?

What the hell is this ■■■■?!

**■■■■. That. ** :angryvigo:

Venkman was the mouth.

Stantz was the heart.

Spengler was the brain.

Zeddemore was the everyman (the audience).

For people saying “how would you know what Harold Ramis would have wanted”, I’d bet he wouldn’t have said: “stop any attempts at GB3 should I die.” In any case that is likely to be a clear cut legal issue for lawyers at this point, and not for the fanbase to decide over.

But given that the trinity mentioned above is crucial to these films

I see 2 alternatives script wise:

  1. Spengler is not dead but in Cameo fashion is CGI’d into the film. Possibly from behind, or sitting at a desk from behind lecturing/advising students/new GB’s.

  2. Spengler is dead. The result of one of his experiments on the states of advanced theoretical reality/consciousness. Like when he tried to drill a hole in his head. This allows the film latitude in terms of a man on the other side, a consciousness passed on, onto what? Onto where? Onto when? But again that is not really a role for the brain persona, more the heart persona.

Option 2 breaks the trinity though (as someone will have to be “the personification” of the plausibility of the Ghostbusters technology/equipment, and that was Spengler) which is wrong.

I don’t see a lot of good outcomes for option 2.

all I’ll say is, if you don’t want to see a third film happen, that’s fine, simply don’t go see it, you’re not obligated to and the first two films are on numerous formats to enjoy and will be for quite some time.

It’s not a case of “just don’t watch it.” If a 3rd film comes out and it’s crap, it will ruin the FRANCHISE. Why do some people not get that?

Do you not understand that if a 3rd film is complete pony, it will become an embarrassment to wear GB gear out in public? It’s not about the film, it’s about the association to the fans.

TOO EASY. Film it in Detroit. It don’t get much more gritty than that.

Ok, then just don’t try at all, got it.

Lol!! I don’t care how potentially bad a 3rd film COULD be, it will not ruin how great the first one was! Take Indiana Jones for instance. The last one was total crap, but it takes nothing away from the first two.

As far as wearing the uniform out… We play dress up out in public. If that doesn’t embarrass us and keep us from doing it, than a crap 3rd film shouldn’t… :sunglasses:

Amen to that. A bad movie won’t prevent the first two from existing.

People really aren’t grasping this are they?

The badge is sacred and sticking it on any old s*** and marketing it as “Ghostbusters” demeans it. When I wear the logo I do NOT want people associating me with the 3rd film, which is guaranteed to be nothing but a money making exercise.

Yes the other 2 will still exist, however, human beings tend to remember bad things a lot more than the good. The mere mention of “Ghostbusters” will forever be associated with the abortion that will ultimately be GBIII.

Just because other franchises are ****ed up (Indiana Jones, Die Hard, etc) doesn’t mean ours has to suffer the same fate.

And what exactly guarantees this?
