This is obviously kind of “too soon” to talk about, but while perusing the interwebs I came across this article about GB3 moving forward.

I feel the same way as Ernie does I’m afraid. I’ve no desire to see Ghostbusters 3 without the original four players.
Oh lord here we go. What a crazy 24 hours. All I know is that I felt really proud yesterday knowing that I was part of such an awesome community.
I’ve kind of accepted the fact that the movie wasn’t going to happen, so I see it even more unlikely now. At best they will do a mediocre remake in a few years that will bomb at the box office.
Im with TC, but in the event that there is a “baton passing” style movie made i hope (im sure im wrong) they go old school and use real props, real puppets and real camera tricks.
The funny thing is when I see either of the 2 movies i never think of them as being ground breaking graphically but they actually were for their time, so I guess it would be fitting if 3 did something new. I just don’t want to have to build all new props 
Yeah its kind of crappy, but I seeing them using all the talk of this tragic event to kind of lead into the whole GB3 thing moving forward. I was hoping with all the 30th anniversary hype we’d get to see like a reunion of sorts, not necessarily a movie, but maybe some new commentary, a nice blu ray box set of the two films, idk, but now it won’t be the same without Harold.
bad bad bad idea. GB3 is obviously not meant to be. it was crucial to have all 4 original members involved… and Bill Murray has said time and time again he doesnt want to do it, and now with the passing of Harold Ramis (story-wise, how can you have a GB movie with Egon, the inventor of all their equipment?) I cant even imagine Dan Aykroyd or Ernie Hudson wanting to do another movie without Bill and Harold. as much as a third movie would have been great, without Harold Ramis involved, I dont want any part of it… as Louis Tully would say “It’s a sign!” - a sign that GB3 should not be made. honestly I dont even know why anyone is talking about it, so soon after Harolds death, there are internet news articles about it too, seems disrespectful.
It appears that Harold’s part in the film was small anyway, (probably since Dan and Sony knew about his poor health), so knowing that, it makes sense to carry on. But what surprises me more is that THR got info from Sony. That’s more telling about the state of GB3 than anything Aykroyd has said, ever.
I still don’t think the chances are that high, but knowing Sony was fostering development on it still (even if it wasn’t repeatedly in the headlines) and not just Dan talking it up surprises me. In that light, it may not be completely finished.
Do I want a GB film without Egon? Not really, but that said, considering he wasn’t going to be in it very much anyway, I see no reason to cease the low level production that is gestating. It basically doesn’t change much if Egon was only going to cameo. Ya never know… in a fantasy world, Murray would agree to star in the film in tribute to Harold.
I don’t want a 3rd anymore. BUT if they do, I certainly hope they don’t write off Egon by having him die, too. As torn up as I am about Harold, part of me takes comfort in thinking that in the GB universe, Egon is still alive and well. If they pass the torch, they can get away with a brief Aykroyd cameo, but the story itself does not need to be “how the new GBs become GBs”…it can pick up a year or so after they start–similar to Star Trek: The Next Generation, the series began, time had passed, we had the McCoy cameo for good measure, and away we went on new adventures. That may be the best way to do it IF GB3 happens…but do NOT create GB canon where Egon is dead.
Eh, I’m not putting a ton of faith into the THR article. Esinberg and Stupnitsky have both been off of the project for like a year and a half. Etan Cohen has been the screenwriter for a while. That’s a pretty huge error from an insider deep in Sony with a ton of info.
I’m really sad that this topic was even posted so soon after Harold passing, A huge part of what made ghostbusters has now gone and as much I wasn’t looking forward to a 3rd film before I really hope they leave it alone now.

I am sorry to hear that Harold Raimi passed away. But without him I don’t want to see a Ghostbusters 3. To me the Ghostbusters Video Game on X-Box 360 was a way better sequel than a movie would be at this point. But that’s just me.
Personally I find it pretty messed up that They have no problem making GB3 without Harold Ramis, when the suggestion of GB3 without Bill Murray was met with hissy fits. As if Harold is less important…..
I was really anxious to see GB3, no matter what. But now that poor Harold is gone, I think they should just let it go.

It is a sad that Harold Ramis is gone. Personally up until now I would have liked to have seen GB3 but now no. To me it just won’t be the same. They should just leave it alone.
They could shoot him sitting at a desk from behind now and then throughout the movie. Or recast him or his nephew with him having died in an experiment but the nephew has odd moments.

I posted this on a friends timeline earlier talking about it. But really. The guys should make the 3rd for Harold. If they write in his death properly. Bring Bill back onboard. And start the movie with them grieving at Egon’s grave. And looking at each other like…we are getting too old for this…time to bring in some new recruits. Short and touching to our hearts. That would be an opening to remember in my opinion for what they want to do anyways. End credits with remembrance of Harold and franchises and fans photo’s…that would be awesome. Take some of the proceeds from the movie and donate to an organization Harold my have been involved with. We can all be happy.

So let me get this straight: Bill obviously has wanted nothing to do with a third film for ages, and now Ernie (quite rightly, IMO) says he wouldn’t do it without Harold. Surely that has to be the end of the line?
Has Dan said anything on the matter yet? It would certainly be interesting to know his views.
Of course, Hollywood being what they are, if they want to make a film they will, regardless of whether or not they should.
Nope. No. Fuck no. Nope. Not a chance in hell. I’d boycott it. Fuck Sony if they do this. End it at two and the game. No.
Reitman completely dodged the question on a radio interview. Rightly so.
Very sad to think people can cash in on this. I hope nothing goes forward with GB3
