Wow. Just wow. I love GB, almost too much, and I could care less how POTENTIALLY bad a 3rd movie COULD be, it will never take away or diminish my love for the first two. Heck, I mean the second one was enjoyable, but nowhere near the level of the first one and even some really didn’t like it… yet still love the first one. And I will always wear the patch n equipment proudly!
Right. What makes you so certain it’s going to be as bad as all that? It might suck, sure. But I’m willing to give it a chance for my love of Ghostbusters. I have faith that Ivan Reitman and Dan Aykroyd know how to create compelling characters and a great story.
Dan is the heart, Harold was the brain.
Remember that time when you fell in love and your brain seemed to switch itself off? Now years later, you look back and think “what the hell was I thinking?!” No Harold = no brain. No brain = ridiculous over the top movie with plenty of heart, but nothing to ground it.
Harold even said in an interview about GBIII that Dan was writing a script that was basically “Ghostbusters go to Hell” which he then laughs because he knows it’s ridiculously over the top - great idea… but over the top. Again, no Harold means Dan has too much free license to go mad with it. He’s a fantastic guy, but he’s a live wire and needs earthing!
…but whatever, people won’t agree with me. Just like the EA video, I’m going to wait until everyone comes running back screaming “HORRIBLE! HORRIBLLLLEEEE!!!” 
But Dan isn’t the only person writing this. As a matter of fact, he probably just added notes and some rewrites, like he did with the video game. Etan Cohen was the main scriptwriter working closely with Ivan Reitman.
Again, you may end up being right. Until you are, I will remain optimistic and excited.

Lord and Miller are out, and it sounds like they’ve taken the current story outline with them. It’s being completely reworked.

I wouldn’t trust Bloody Disgusting’s statement that the script is being rewritten. I think the author meant that it was completely rewritten since the earlier script that focused on Murray. If you look for the source of the info, it’s two tweets, and never is it mentioned that they’re taking the storyline with them. They’re just shopping around for other directors at this point.

I didn’t want to start ANOTHER GB3 thread but here is an excerpt from the Ivan Reitman interview today on Ain’t It Cool News.
Jeremy: Whenever we post a GHOSTBUSTERS 3 story, the reaction from our readers is basically the same.
Reitman: God forbid. (Laughs) “It’s all bullshit!”
Jeremy: That’s half of it, yes. “How can they do this?” But after Harold Ramis passed, those negative reactions seemed to grow in volume. Thinking of those fans who have a real reticence about this project, and how it might not live up to expectations, what would you say to them?
Reitman: I felt really uncomfortable about directing it. My expectation for the longest time - because we’ve been working on it for almost four years now, really actively on a regular basis with two sets of writing teams - was that I wanted to direct it and it was going to be good. We have very good scripts that really honor the tradition of it. The original GHOSTBUSTERS are all in their sixties - the ones who are alive - and one of them is extraordinarily reticent and hasn’t read a screenplay, despite having said that he has. I hung in there until Harold’s death, and then I realized maybe this is the opportunity. It happened in combination with [DRAFT DAY], which I’m so proud of; it was so satisfying to do something more serious and had a dramatic flow to it. It made more sense for someone of my age. I remember coming back and thinking about [GHOSTBUSTERS 3] for weeks even prior to Harold’s death, and then that just pushed me over the edge. So I went to Sony and I said, “Look, I’m not comfortable directing this sequel now.”
I realized I only have a number of movies left in me, and I did GHOSTBUSTERS. People will only be comparing it to that [first movie], and I’ll only be fighting against myself. It just felt too weird, especially with the loss of Harold, who just focused that moment in my own life and my own sense of mortality. So I backed off. But I’m going to be very involved in it. I’m going to produce it, and it’s going to be the second draft that Etan Coen wrote. It’s terrific, and it really lives up to the original in a way GHOSTBUSTERS II didn’t. I think the second GHOSTBUSTERS is two-thirds of a great movie, and I think the last act is ridiculous. I had no problem making it, but I knew we couldn’t do that again. We had to do something that has the kind of energy and scale and deliciousness of the first one. I think we’ve got stuff like that in this. Generally, people are always cynical about these things because at their heart they start as financial desires by a studio. But there are really good creative people behind this that are trying their best. It doesn’t mean it will be as great a movie as the first one. I hope strangely that it isn’t. (Laughs) And strangely I hope that it is. That’s the most honest answer I can give. I think it has the opportunity to be a really great film in its own right. You have to judge these movies as they come out.

What a novel concept!
The recent interview Ivan gave, where he criticizes GB II, is more fuel to a growing fire that GB III is going to be a let down.
The real criticism: WHY DID IT TAKE RAMIS’ DEATH TO FINALLY GET GB III MOVING?
There was a time when the only news about this sequel was rumor based hopes from Dan but now, Ivan is giving us all our news and it seems to be getting worse.
No matter what happens, we already know what this movie will be.

-No Egon
-Limited OGB roles
-Possible Murray cameo
-XGB plot
If Ivan thinks “GB II was two thirds of a movie” then this one will be ‘one third.’ In the end, everyone will agree GB II wasn’t so bad and GB III should have been made in the late 90’s or not at all.

So I guess this movie doesn’t even have to be Ghostbusters-related?
In that case, why not call the movie Ghostbusters Legacy or: How we Learned to Stop Worrying about what the Fans want and Love the Money.
God, I hope he was exaggerating when he said that. The remaining Ghostbusters, at the very least Ray, need to be in it more than “minor roles.” Supportive roles, sure. But just to further the plot, I cannot really see anyone else developing equipment other than Ray at this point. His role should be like Egon’s in Extreme Ghostbusters.
Pretty much this, since Ray knows how everything works about as well as Egon does.
