I’m basing my build off the GBFans shell and one of the details I wanted to be careful with was the booster tube angle. I went with Ejgunth87’s booster tube because it’s cut to 50 degrees, which should match the GBFans shell. As you can see here, the tube matched up fine in the front, but there is about a 1/4" gap as it goes toward the back…
Is the shell supposed to be 50 degrees, or might there be an issue with my shell? I know there is some accurate Cyclotron warping on these shells, but in the pic above there is some warping where the booster tube would lay.
Anyway, just wanted to rule out any issues with my shell before moving forward.
I don’t know the angle it is ‘supposed’ to be, but you should always fit your booster tube to the shell… and not the other way around. It’s good to have that angle gauge to measure it.
That would leave you with a booster tube cut at 51.5 degrees. My gbfans shell requires one at 52.9 degrees. Is it typical to have that amount of variation in shells from the same mold?
I did confirm with the seller of my booster tube that the tubes offered would fit the ‘gbfans shell’, but maybe I should have confirmed that it would fit my exact shell.
It’s a little confusing because the blade is 90 degrees off from from the dial. If you measure the way that it’s laid out on the old Stefan drawings you’d have an EDA at 131.5 degrees. The upper half of the EDA is a slightly different angle than the lower half (if that makes sense at all.). That was a product of me adjusting the overall height of the EDA compared to bigi’s original version. The booster tube has a 2.5" OD so you really have to measure the angle stating around 2" up the EDA. You’ll want a tube cut at the previously mentioned 38.5 - 39 in order to give the correct flush look when viewing the pack from the front.
I don’t know if I explained that very well, but anyways in your case, as a few folks have said, I’d just hit it with a belt sander gradually until it looks good from the front.
Adding some height while still maintaining the original shape and keeping the underside wall lining up required a lot of manipulation and relied a bit on optical illusion. It looks fine when the tube is attached but on the bare shell you can slightly notice the “layers”.
Yeah, that made sense along with the pictures. Thanks for the extra effort you took to explain it all. I will try carefully trimming it down as suggested
