GBFans Trap Kit - Build thread

Well, I figured out the easy pieces to put together …I think!

Just unpacked my GBfans trap kit, now to see what goes where…

Cool! It comes with a free bonus pack shell!

yep, didn’t AJ tell ya? It sets him back a good $200’s per order, but he just loves us so much he throws it in free :o)

You’re doing it wrong.

YIPES! I didn’t even notice that! The outer sides are backwards!

Women tell me that all the time…

just threw it together quick to get the idea of it…

Gluing has commenced… how long does gorrilla glue take to dry?

Temporary fit as the glue dries…Will PROBABLY be nailing the bottom into place to make it secure…might be easier than screws..

WAY too much gorilla glue. And it IS strong once cured. You won’t need nails or screws.

Gorilla Glue cures 100% in 2 hours, and it is like rock. Use VERY small amounts.. I usually put small dabs on, and pair that with superglue to hold the part in place quickly until the gorilla glue cures. It takes time to learn how little you can get away with for a good bond.

One botle of gorilla glue will last you years!

Are you really skipping the base piece?

Alright, how’s this look…what am I forgetting now?

Clamps.

I don’t know the details of his trap kit, but I would assume they are cut to rather tight tolerances, so everything should fit together very snugly. Clamping your pieces as you glue them will help you keep those tolerances and let your trap fit together nicely.

Also, sand paper. Clean up that bottom edge where you (probably?) broke that glue bond. a light scuff sanding anywhere you’re gluing parts together is a good idea as well, to make sure the glue adheres properly. Also with paint.

Keep posting pictures though, if nothing else, others can learn from your mistakes, and that’s what a community is for, right?

Even with your issues, just consider how decent it looks with very little time spent working on it. It took me 2-3 weeks to create our traps last year.

I recommend two of these:

Insert Futurama Clamps joke here

… or one of these:

Don’t glue shit together until you know how it’s actually supposed to fit together.
