I am a new member and I am very seriously considering building my first proton pack. As with most of you, I’ve loved these movies since I was a kid and of course, always wanted to own a proton pack. Now, I have the chance to build one with the help of all the people who have put in the time and effort to make a very sweet replica.
I’ve thought about starting with the Neutrona Wand as opposed to the motherboard (although I know this is sort of backwards). The reason being is so I could start small and detail as much as possible to make sure I’m capable of handling the rest. Also, I’m going to be doing this in small steps (cost reasons) and I figured the Wand might be a little less costly to start out with.
With that said, I’ve seen that a lot of people have used “throwing chicken” gun boxes and other assembly parts to make their Wands, and I was wondering what that was about, how to order the parts, if there’s a web site, vost, etc. Also, does anyone have measurements for the Neutrona Wand? I looked at some of the plans, and I didn’t see any. I might have just overlooked them, though.
Other than that, I would just really appreciate any advice: where to buy the cheapest realistic parts, how much it costs in the end, any household items that function well as exact replicated parts…I don’t know, just advice in general. I realize this is a lot and it’s very broad, but I figure there are plenty of people out there that have built packs with the same questions in mind. Anything you could offer will be much appreciated!

I’d suggest starting on the easier pieces for the mobo simply because, like you said, the wand is a bit more painstaking and requires more detail.. this way you get enough experience with the materials you’re using to be able to figure it out easier.

You may want to sift through the For Sale section for other parts, like a motherboard, shells, bumpers, etc. You’ll have to look at the guides here to see what all you need to construct a screen accurate pack (mind you I believe the packs between GB1 and GB2 are slightly different).
And if you want some wow factor, Exoray sells a pack kit (for the cycletron and power pack), gun kit lits (for the wand) and an upcoming revised sound board that all work together.
The best advice I can offer is to read,read,and read some more.Look at the members pictures.I hung around here for about a year just reading posts before I started on my pack and I built the wand first.In addition to the members mentioned above check out Multi-Media Mayhem known as MMM.He’s a member here too(irricanian) and has close to a “one stop shop” for alot of your supernatural elimination needs.
I second this. Nothings worse than having a project fall apart cause you didn’t read something that would have saved you hours, days, or weeks of trouble.

I have another question…in the realm of the lights and sound.
I have seen that the two primary sound and light kits have been Exoray and Hyperdyne Labs. I was wondering if there was any difference or benefit between the two.
I’m probably going to be adding all of these after completion, so I was wondering if anyone has built their entire proton pack and then gone back and installed all the wiring, lights, etc. and if so, has anyone built their packs to able to be re-accessed in some areas instead of having to tear it apart to install everything? I dunno…maybe I’m just impatient.
