Ghost trap pedal parts in the UK

Hey guys,

After seeing Teliwhy’s Trap greeble list I figured I would post my current list of where to get a majority of the parts for the pedal in the UK. Although some parts arn’t the exact same manufacture they are nearly identical.

I used Stefan’s trap pedal PDF as a guide. I will try to stick to the names and manufactures he used and the UK equivalent.

Metal Project Box (Hammond MFG #1590A)

http://www.maplin.co.uk/module.aspx?moduleno=43713

The code you want is N88BQ. The measurements for it are: 92mmx38mmx27mm. The Hammond measurements are: 93mmx39mm27mm. Whilst the is a slight difference this is very minimal.

Plastic Project Box (Hammond MFG #1591L)

http://www.maplin.co.uk/module.aspx?moduleno=43708

The code you want is N68FK. The measurements for it are: 85mmx56mmx36mm. The Hammond measurements are: 85mmx56mm35mm. Whilst the is a slight difference this is very minimal.

ITT RM833212 Relay (3DPT 9pin Relay)

http://www.maplin.co.uk/module.aspx?moduleno=2567

The code you want is JG62S. The site doesn’t say how many pins it is but i’m pretty sure they are 11. All the Maplin stores I have been into have them out on the shop floor in clear plastic bags so you should be able to see.

9-Pin D-Sub Housing

http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=1128

The code you want is JB68Y. Whilst it is metalliised I can’t see it being too much of a problem to strip or repaint. Looks identical to the one on the shop (apart from the chrome effect).

20 Pin Ribbon Cable

http://www.maplin.co.uk/module.aspx?moduleno=72

The code is XR77J. The cable on the link is actually 40pin with a red stripe going across the top. You should be able to cut the excess 20pins off using a craft knife.

2*10 Pin Card Edge Connecter AMP

http://www.maplin.co.uk/module.aspx?moduleno=1449

The code you want is FG84F. This is the only part that i’m not entirely sure about. It looks ok, maybe not total film accuracy but i’m pretty sure it’ll do the job good enough.

Hopefully this list is off some help to those of you in the UK. Most Maplin shops readily carry the parts so you can go in with a list of all the codes and they should be able to sort you out. For the stuff they don’t have in stock you can order it from the website.

Regards

i think in the UK only nick-a-tron offers the pedal plate … for the other parts : do it yourself

i also used stefans plans, and build all the parts out of wood (u can get the measurements of the boxes from the manufacturer page) … the relay and the connector i use are not the correct ones, but it looks ok to me

as u can see, some parts are still missing like the banjo and the cable stuff

Thanks for that…a great help to us Brits!

Keith

Oh my gawd! You just gave me the best ide for the cable to the trap pedal.. TV cable! the connectors are great! I was Using Guitar cable

Sean what have you mounted the Relay on? Have you used a socket like this one below?

Keith

Hey Keith,

Unfortunatly I am yet to build the pedal, however I am unable to find a relay socket like the one you have posted. The only one Maplin do is a big square black one which is completely wrong.

If you do manage to find a source for these I would love to know!

Sean, oh okay, sorry I thought the Pedal above was your one.

I went to Maplins with my list and found out the boxes were Web orders only, plus they didn’t have the ribbon cable, so I ended up ordering via the Web from their site. Pretty easy and the parts arrived the very next day, cost £2.99 for postage no matter how big the order.

Here are the parts, what are they like I hear you cry? Well the boxes are actually the **Hammond **ones, check out the labels in the pic, so result number 1 there.

The ribbon cable is 40 pin, but it cost pennies (79p I think), so cutting it down to 20 is no problem, plus it has the Red top part…excellent part.

The Sub Housing is chrome/plastic…no sweat, quick shot of primer and it’s Grey (remember to scuff up the chrome/shiny surface first), again this is an excellent part.

The Relay is an 11 pin, looks fine to me…only problem here is getting the 11 pin Octal Socket, I’m trying to source that from the US.

Card Edge connector is fine, I’m probably going to use 2 of these on my Pedal, one each end of the Ribbon Cable.

Hope this helps some of you UK guys who are looking for Pedal parts over here…Big thanks to Sean for digging out these parts numbers from Maplins.

Keith

For the relay base, have you tried using a valve tube base, I’m sure you will find that is what is used on the pedals, relay bases are generally bigger to be fitted to machine panels, valve bases can have similar pin arrangements but are designed to be installed on radio and tv boards so tend to be more compact. Just a thought.

as an example, though the pin number is wrong…

Or have a look at the pin layouts on some of these…
