Ghostbuster Conventions

I know we’re all geeks here, so I thought this might be a good idea. I’ve been to Star Trek Conventions, and I know there are comic cons, and manga cons and conventions for just about anything and everything out there. Why are there no GB cons?

I’m willing to drive down to Atlanta, or up to Charlotte, or Gatlinburg, or Chicago(I thik I’d rather fly there) or how about this one- NEW YORK to meet all the Ghostheads out there, and potentially meet some of the movie’s characters.

What do y’all think of that?

We could invite the writers, directors, stars, and so-forth to come talk, or whatever. Hell we could even just buy em a beer. I don’t care- it’d be fun!

due to $ and time restraints (as of now), i would only be able to go to chicago… but i would go anywhere for it if i had enough time to more than enough time to save $$ for it

I don’t think there’s enough in the Ghostbusters world for an entire convention to be based on the series, in my opinion, I think a Convention running either for hours or even a few days, the material would be worn thin, though I think it’d totally be fun, i’d be willing to take my uniform and pack up to anywhere. If somebody could get that together, that’s be sweet!!

Well idk, in the whole WORLD? I think there’d be enough of us

The last I heard, the average Trek con brings in several thousand people from all over the globe. GB isn’t quite as old, and probably doesn’t have nearly the following that ST does, but I think it’d be worth a shot, if for nothing more than for fellow Ghostheads to get together, meet up, and talk face-to-face.

If I’m not mistaken, James Doohan(God rest him) of the first Star Trek con in the seventies that there was well over a hundred thousand people there. True, it was held in NYC, but I’d say that’s a great possibility for us, seeing as that’s kinda where we should want to congregate. Maybe we could have it in the actual firehouse used in the movie? And if we had one in San Francisco, we could use that firehouse as well. (The one in NYC was the exterior of the firehouse only, and the one if SF was the interior only)

I’m just tossin ideas here. I’d be willin to save up my pennies for a chance to hook up with the original cast and express my appreciation, assuming that is, that they’d all come.

HAH! Bill Murray would NEVER do it, not in a million years.

Danny would prolly do it, but he’d probably be too busy.

Harold Ramis may or nay, I’m still on the fence on that

Ernie Hudson… No question about it, he loves Ghostbusters and loves the fans too. I’d bet everything I had that he would come.

Who’s to say who would and wouldn’t come?

Why wouldn’t Murray do it? He had time to A make the movie(twice) and B he had a ten-minute bit in SpaceJam- that’s gotta count for something!

Then what about Annie Potts and Rick Moranis? Oh, and let’s not forget the illustrious Siguorney Weaver… What about them?

I would have to agree about Bill Murray not showing up… He really didn’t even want to make a second Ghostbusters movie and reports are that he is one of, if not THE main reason a third film has never been made. If he would have been 100% commited to GB3, i’m pretty sure it would have gotten made. But Murray hates doing sequels. He feels it’s just a way for studios to make money because the movie already has a “built in audience.” In other words people willl just go see it because they liked the first one and that is how the studio makes it’s money from often lame sequels, Murray doesn’t like that…

I’ve also read and seen other interviews with Murray and he just doesn’t seem to have the same love for Ghostbusters that a lot of people do. It seems more like the movies were just a job to him.

I was just talking about the team, I really couldnt say if Annie Potts or Rick Moranis would do it, because I’m not quite familiar with their overall opinions on Ghostbusters. Obviously Bill currently has no love for GB and probably wouldnt want to go to ANY sort of convention whatsoever, much less a Ghostbusters one.

I can see both your points from above. I don’t like it, but I must admit you’re right, at least in part.

I only ownder because, William Shatner ::coughs-"asshole!"cough,cough:: HATES Trekkies and Trek conventions, and yet, he still milks us for all we’re worth. I’m not saying Mr. Murray would do that, not at all. But at the same time, wouldn’t it be great if…?

Yes it would be great!.. After all Venkman has always been my favorite character… Funny story about why Venkman is my favorite and actually why I got into Ghostbusters. When I was 6 we were on a road trip to Minnesota (from CA), we stopped at a store and I wanted a toy. My mom told me, “You’ve got too many Transformers. Pick out something else.” Having no clue (at that time) what it was, I picked up a Real Ghostbusters action figure by the name of Peter Venkman and the rest is history.

As an option, we could talk with the organizers of one of the big Cons (DragonCon in Atlanta comes to mind) about something involving a Ghostbusters theme. Or, if nothing else, we could have a Ghostbusters Company get together that just happened to coincide with their convention.

i think we should have it in ny… cuz well thats where it all started. we can rent out a hall in one of the hotels.. maybe even the one where gozer was.. that would be pretty sweet! we can visit other land marks where the ghostbusters shot. but ya besides walking around. i think the whole hall thing in ny would be cool. and i dont think it would be that much money if you think about it. cuz well there is alot of us out there. soo ya i’m down

Reading all of this about the convention got me wondering what the guys have been up to lately, so I started looking them up on IMDB. Harold Ramis is working on a project with Owen Wilson, Dan Aykroyd has something to do with a movie called “Camille,” I didn’t even bother looking to see what Murray was up to, Annie Potts has been in a couple shows recently, Ernie Hudson does some TV and movie stuff, Sigourney Weaver seems to be keeping herself busier than most of the others and Rick Moranis…

Let me just say up-front, no offense to those who enjoy country music. It’s just definitely not my cup of tea.

That being said, I died a little inside when I saw this.

I knew he’d put out a “country-comedy” album recently, but wow. I guess whatever works, man. I hope he’s not too busy after the grammy nomination if this convention were ever to come to fruition.

i hope the rest of the album is better than that

I would come even if it is on the other side o’the world.
