Ghostbuster Guzzler - Party Plans & Planning

If this is in the wrong place, I apologize. I was figuring it could go here or in the “Other Events” forum, but I assumed that “Other Events” would be best reserved for advertising upcoming events or sharing ones that have occurred. Since our party will not happen until July 2016, I decided to create it here in “General Ghostbusters Discussion”. If you prefer I move the thread elsewhere, let me know. I will be happy to recreate it.

So! I originally had this “genius” plan to have a Ghostbusters drinking game party inspired by a previous party of a similar nature, but Clue themed. It was a HUGE success with my friends and family and I thought that having a Ghostbusters theme would be quite fun and allow for me to apply even more of my creative juices than I did for the Clue party.

A lot of my plans are still just that. But I have a lot of research and resources to share of what I’ve come up with and put together so far. You have no idea how much of a challenge it was to find adult Ghostbusters-themed parties. Many of the references I found were intended for children parties. I reworked them to add some adult fun to it. (It is a drinking party after all…)

The Invitation

Please keep in mind that the date is not yet decided. I wanted to have it somewhere around the release date for the reboot, so the date on the invite may change. I was inspired by the shots in the films when they show tid-bits of newspaper clippings and magazine covers. I thought creating a newspaper page as the invite could be really fun and better inform guests not just of the fact that there’s a party, but that it’s going to be a dress-up party and what food would be present.

The photos that are on the invite now will change and be replaced with those of my husband and myself posing as 'busters. It’s just that right now I don’t have my outfit complete for taking photos and my hubbs has nothing together. Right now the photos serve as a placeholder to help me visualize.

The Games

The Food & Beverages

Hot dog station

  • Hot dogs, sausages, condiments (ketchup, mustard, relish, chili, mayonnaise, melted cheese), hot dog buns
    Pizza bar
  • Will keep it simple to boxes of cheese and pepperoni pizzas, maybe combo too
    Chinese take out
  • Only to be done if purchased in traditional take-out boxes.
    Canned soda & beer
  • Throughout the film, you see them drinking coke and a beer I haven’t id’d yet, so we’ll be sticking to canned coke products and..some sort of beer. I’m not a big beer drinker so if anyone wants to recommend a good canned beer, I’ll happily listen.
    Twinkies dessert bar

I took the time to really watch all the kinds of food they ate in the films when in the firehouse. The listed above is what I thought could be good as party foods, but not too restricted. I haven’t decided if having the take out is a good idea because it will require utensils, but I think it would be a fun nod to the films. Having the food set up as bars or stations will allow guests to satisfy their own personal preferences without forcing them to eat food they don’t want. And I haven’t decided about the twinkies. I’m not a huge fan and I don’t want to deal with lots of leftover twinkies if people don’t really eat them. I’ll be making labels for the stations to label for food allergies and aesthetics.

The Decor

For “sliming” the party-pooping guests who don’t dress up, I’m going to create labels for some silly string cans as “pocket proton packs” or “ecto-in-a-can”. Because I can see adults trying to “slime” each other.

For the decorating of the home its self, we’re hoping to make it look like the inside of the firehouse. I’m even going to try and rig the ceiling to look like a fire pole is coming from it. I’ve seen a couple builds and wall set-ups people have done on here as movable walls and I’d love to try a similar effect with a containment unit. Was also thinking of putting blue prints on the “walls”. Our containment unit will be pretty simple and my hubbs will be in charge of that.

We will also have a photo booth set up near/with the containment unit where people can pose with my props or with the “no” signal to pretend to be the no ghost logo.

And that’s what I have right now. As I get graphics or updates, I’ll share them here. Has anyone else wanted to throw a Ghostbusters themed party more geared towards adults than kids? It was so hard finding even the few idea references I could on the internet. Most people are throwing children parties so…yeah. I hope this helps out other people in the future too.

This is awesome!!

I always thought about trying to put together some kind of Ghostbuster themed party.

Ray is seen drinking Budweiser a few time in the film and at the end Winston yells “it’s Miller time!” so either one of those would be good. When I did a GB themed party a few years ago I did Miller Lite as it is relatively cheap and most people remember that line anyway.

This is actually Venkman’s line, which he says after Winston’s iconic tools/talent line, but still a good idea!

So, I’m apparently not subscribed to my own topic and missed these responses! Thanks for the great ideas for beer too. I’m going to look into it. Need to make sure guests would drink that…cause we’re kind of liquor drinkers and that beer would not be consumed if left over after the party. ^^;

I wanted to update that we’re looking into a venue to rent and I’m so excited! It’s a real firehouse in San Fransisco that they allow people to rent out for events. Best part? It has a fire pole! People usually use it as a wedding venue, but it’s been used as a party location and all sorts of other things. We’re looking into what its’ going to cost, but I think it will be a lot better than trying to host the party in our dinky little apartment, plus our housing situation might change so we’re thinking it wouldn’t be a good idea to plan the party on wherever we might be living come July. Plus firehouse. WITH a pole. Could I pick a better location for a Ghostbusters party?

If anyone is in NorCal and curious about the location, here it is:

Sorry, I’m just too excited about that fire pole. XD And bar. How fun would it be mixing drinks behind there all decked out in 'buster gear?
