Oh, sorry. I didn’t mean to imply that the original suits were Nomex. Just that the Nomex suits are what is considered to be the best of the best for what we can get today, and the color just looks much more brown than the tan/khaki suits from the movie.
So while the GB1 suits weren’t necessarily grey, they sure weren’t this Nomex brown.
Desert Tan was sort of invented in 1989/1990 when we decided to heavily invest operations in the middle east. Prior to that the Khaki used by the military was a lot more muted and less brown to fit in with foliage.
No prob, Garvin. I didn’t necessarily think you were addressing me. Which is why I quoted kind, specifcially to respond to him. Thanks though.
Ron - considering the info you just posted, do you think maybe if we were to dull down the Nomex suits somehow that they might make a more accurate representation than dying them?
Even on the video games their suits are Grey, and I’m sure the creators went through pain staking measures to make sure every detail stayed true to the movies.
You realize that the first two pics you posted are over 20 years old, those were freaking promo shots and they are way too fucking dark to be able to tell color from.
Seriously lady, you need to get your eyes checked, the suits are khaki not gray,
Do you have actual audio of the game mentioning that? I have the game, I didn’t hear it. Even if they did say it, then the art director of the game really didn’t do their homework on every detail and that’s really sad.
Angie, it is a well-known fact that the suits were not gray but do appear gray in parts of the move, like i said this is most likely attributed to ambient lighting and the grade of film used to shoot the movie. IRL the suits where khaki/tan, please do yourself the favor and check our reference section:
Accusations of color-blindness based solely on opinion won’t cut it here, not when we have excellent tools of totally objective and empirical measurement. Let’s take, for example, your first shot. From your own “proof:”
Each image is a color analysis of each suit, done in Photoshop. They show you exactly where on the color spectrum the suit colors, as shown in your picture, lie. In order to be “grey,” the color should lie all the way at the left, with no saturation. We can see that it is quite near the middle, with a medium saturation characteristic of muted colors such as khaki. Compare the color in the swatch at the top right to the true grey background as well.
You can feel free to continue to accuse the forum of being colorblind, or call Photoshop “colorblind,” though I and thousands of other graphic designers and art professionals all over the world would disagree with you.
Just for fun, let’s look at that second image:
Notice the lack of any saturation in that belt? That’s a true grey there. See the brown coloration in the suit below? Well, that’s not grey.
Figures and video game characters were not in GB1. They’re inconsequential…
The screenshot, from the original DVD transfer, does indeed make the suits appear grey. Look at the newer remastered HD transfers with better detail and color retention to see the real khaki tone.
If you have something other than an accusation of color-blindness and snide remarks, we’re all ears.
I did, and the color on those pictures look off and grainy, looks like someone tried to enhance the color, or tried to add more color to it and by doing so you would change the color of the suit. And another thing, this is fan site, there’s no actual documented fact that those suits worn by the actors were Khaki. the only people who would know such a thing would be someone who worked on the set of the movie.
You obviously aren’t very smart. Some of the people in this thread, including me, have been around a hell of alot longer than you have(10+ years). Believe it or not, we KNOW what we are talking about. Unlike you.
YOU.
ARE.
WRONG
The suits were khaki. They were NOT grey. Get over it
