Has anyone heard if our GB movies will be released on Blu-Ray? I know GB1 came out early enough on UMD for the Sony PSP. Got a PS3 for xmas so I want to try out the Blu-Ray player.
They will be.. but not for quite a while.
Maybe they’ll be released around the same time as the game.?
What would be the benefit of having GB on Blu-Ray, let alone ANY kind of HDR media?
Umm, 6 times the resolution over a DVD ie HBlu-Ray (1920x1080) ~~ DVD (720x480)…
Probably a much better aspect ratio and better audio as well…

Your comparison image is really really impressive, but I think it may be misleading. 6 times the resolution is cool, but the film quality of the original movie wasn’t that great to begin with, especially the effects scenes that involved rotoscoping.
Hardly misleading as 35mm film is far superior to DVD quality can every even think about, so a HD transfer of the print will always yield far better image quality… 35mm film is considered to be roughly equivalent to a 25 megapixel digital image on average, lets be generous and just assume with the 2.35:1 Panavision size used to film GB it’s safe to say that you still have a resolution in excess of 10 megapixel… Blu-ray is 2 megapixels and DVD is .35 megapixels so even with Blu-Ray the film is still far superior and has a much better image… So I think it very unfair to claim the film quality isn’t that great, its far superior to any current digital forum by easily 5 fold, probably upwards of 10 fold…
Yes, the overlaid ghost/creature effects in the movie leave a little to be desired, but they amount for only a small part of the film… The proton stream effects look 100 times better in HD as does every single frame overall…
BTW my comparison is from a highly compressed HD version the Blu-Ray will even yield better results as the compression is much higher quality, and I suspect they will devote more time to the transfer process resulting in an even better picture, for such a big release…

well, the post said “being prepped” for Blu-Ray. That might mean they may clean up some FX for the higher resolution, 25th anniversary edition or something. Now I’ll need to get a Blu-ray player, and a bigger TV…: (
The only thing I don’t like about Blu-Ray is that it makes the stunts look more fake then they were.
I’m hoping they go in and fix a few things, otherwise we’re going to see a lot of bluescreen outlines..
All this hi-def stuff can really make older movies look bad…you see details in the makeup and costumes that you didn’t notice before. Especially on some movies. Nothing like a rubber-mask monster to pull you out of the experience!
Ghostbusters should be fine because it was state-of-the-art for its day. Remember that Terminator 2 was the first major use of CG, and that didn’t come out until 1991.
I just watched Lethal Weapon on BR, and it looked pretty nice…although, I wouldn’t exactly call it a huge jump from an upconversion…
I doubt that HD can make older movies look bad, unless they looked bad on the big screen to begin with. You can’t get a better image than what they were originally shot with, unless someone was to take the time to improve everything digitally pixel for pixel, frame for frame.
A couple weeks ago,I saw GB2 on one of the HD cable channels and it looked great.Really impressive.Blu-ray consistently looks better than my HD cable so Blu-ray GB would be gorgeous.Can’t wait for some kind of announcement as I’ll definitely buy them both on Blu-ray.
hopefully the Blu-Ray print will be treated to the same love the DVD got - but more so (the DVD isn’t perfect - aspect ratio’s and the like, but that was the same with a lot of older DVD’s).
The ones on HD channels are usually highly compressed, and are never treated that well (look at the color cast on Exoray’s one for example - means it was just a quick and dirty film scan).
If GB comes out before the 360 Blu-Ray drive… I may just have to get a PS3…
Well, on the 1999 commentary they did make mention of possibly doing another commentary again in another 10 years, so…you never know.
GB Blu-ray will be amazing without a doubt. Blu-Ray is amazing…
