Here are some additional updates.
I finished the etching on the clear piece and cut the hole in the box. I’m waiting on the delivery of the rubber window trim.
This is a rough estimate of how the items will go in the box. I’d like half the box to hold the flight suit and elbow pads. We’ll see.
it looks deep enough to have the flightsuit folded up but i think the pads might be a bit of a squeeze
Here’s a pic of the 2 halves side by side with items in them. I also took pics of the depth measurements. The bigger half will lose at least an inch once I mount the plexiglas and lighting.
I’m planning to paint the inside of the boxes a bright red in case I don’t get any foam inserts
I received the window trim today from a PC case mod kit and picked up some red spray paint for the box interior:
I finished the exterior paint on the other half and took the tape off:
Then I installed the window trim to see how it looks:
Here’s a glimpse of it with the red acrylic:

I’ll need to decide which one is best - red acrylic with bright white LEDs or clear acrylic with red LEDs. Also here is a pic of the inside of the smaller half:
Here’s the finished exterior. Now I need to mount the plexiglass and lights, insert the case foam and I’m ready to travel - or display!

Here’s a pic of the red acrylic. I have an led tipped pen taped to the edge. I’m thinking this will work great with the led tape strip attached to the edge:

I’m thinking of building a bigger version for a mounted proton pack and gun. Does anyone have overall dimensions of a pack with gun on the hook? I don’t have a pack yet so will rely on others. Thanks in advance.
I would personally wait until you have a pack before you do the storage box for it. There is so much that can determine a builds dimensions that not any 2 packs are the same. What’s right for one build may be wrong for another.
@Venkman’s Swagger: thanks! That makes sense. However, it will take awhile to source a good box to start with. Even some approximate dimensions would give me a starting point for searching. I’m planning to mount the pack in the box for display. I’m considering this type of idea:

Rough measurements of my pack show 27" length, 21" width and 20" depth. The width and depth include wiggle room. Hope that helps

@fearless-freak: I’m open to all ideas - I really haven’t seen much other than packs on walls, or in one case a pack displayed in a rehabbed medical storage cart. I can’t visualize what you’re thinking of - do you have images?
