got my exoray sound kit

emailed exoray…

he said to use a more expensive larger 3 way speaker to split up the sound fx or put a high pass filter on the speaker wires, the start up and down has a TON of low bass sound that should be ported to a sub woofer

he didnt say what speaker specs to look for but did say the more expensive ones will give best results

so basically i need a new speaker which i pretty much already new but i really need to know what specs to get as thers loads if i go and buy a $£100 speaker and it still destortes i wont be amused

what speakers are you guys using in your proton packs??

This is what I sent Flynn.

"I have been checking out a few speakers and was wondering if I could

get your seal of approval on a particular brand

http://www.fusioncaraudio.com/australia/car-audio-1/speakers-5/csfr6930-141-product.aspx

or

http://www.sony.co.nz/product/xs-gtf6936"

and he replied “They would be fine, but you can likely go a little cheaper and still be fine as well…”

So I went with the fusion option as it was cheaper.

But next time do what I did…Find some option links on the internet then ask questions. If you haven’t done some of the work first “ie finding some links for people to view” then sometimes you are less likely to get the action packed reply you are seeking.

Now having said that don’t take my speaker choice as the verbatim. I dont want to here you brought the same speaker and find out you are unhappy with it..I haven’t had the opportunity to test it out so i’m not sure if i will also have issues with it.

One other thing I remember Flynn saying is that as the sound kit already has an amp…don’t buy a speaker that also has an amp included…

Hope that helps

JUlz

cheers julz thats defo pointed me in the right direction

any chance of testing out your speaker and posting back the results?

that would really help

Yes sure…When I get my sound kit…for sure. But it’s still on its way along with the rest of my order. So i wont be able to help you out for maybe a couple of weeks…Just sit tight. Best to wait and be sure rather than rush and make the same mistake.

thanks mate i will wait for your reply on the matter

Hookeeee, I have all my exoray stuff, and I have an appropiate battery on it’s way hopefully today. So i’m going to try and test my kit/speaker this weekend, and if you are still curious about my results…I’ll give you my results

nice 1 … awaiting the results …

Yea sorry, i’m working on it

As i’m installing this all on the motherboard itself, its takign a bit more time, But i’m fairly sure i’ll have it done by this weekend. Things always take longer than i estimate…

THe only thing that will be different between your’s and mine is I have decided to run with Flynns battery packs. I have used small plastic spacers to keep the speaker off the mobo as well.

So hopefully you will have some updates soon.

ok I have an update but your not going to like it :stuck_out_tongue: I have the same problem.

I asked Flynn about it and this is what he said…Hopefully he won’t mind me reposting his comments as I feel they are useful to anyone that is installing one of his kits…

“this is the drawback to not having an EQ or cross over as every speaker is different… There is a simple ‘fix’ but I have not had time to test and knock out some values, basically you just need to put a non polarized capacitor inline with the speaker and it will attenuate the low end, different values will result in different attenuations… I just have not had time to play around and find a value that would be universal… But if you want to experiment before I have an absolute answer here are some suggestions…”

So i’m off to get a 100uF @ 16volt NON-polarized capacitor and see how that works…

I’ll let you know my results soon. I think if you get a good speaker you should be fine but it looks like speakers vary quite abit from one another and it’s quite hard to get a universal set up. What you already have might work fine as he said these capacitors are only a couple of dollars and you just wind the speaker wires around them…

hmmm i see

i wonder if i works? have tried one yet?

stumbled across these on ebay i wonder if they could help with the distortion??

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/STOP-SPEAKER-DISTORTION-BASS-BLOCKERS-3-5-1-2-4-TWEETER-/270575817361?pt=Car_Audio_Video&hash=item3eff935291

well i tried the distortion blockers and they just make the sound go really crappy and tinny

so thats out…

i just cant get rid of the mass distortion on power up and down sounds im not gonna go buy a really expensive speaker thers a possability it may still distort

so i guess i gotta put up with it

If your speaker is the appropriate one to work with the kit… then I hate to break it to you… its the kit.

the thing is i dont know if its the speaker the one exo uses in his demo vid doesnt distort at all

on mine it “rumbles” badly on power up and down

i may try a decent speaker at some point then again i may leave it

95% of people who has heard my pack doesnt even notice any distortion even when i tell them.. all they say is WOW AWESOME

but iv spen alot of time and money on this pack and it almost perfect just that darn distortion

the other thing is theres no specs on what speaker to use exo just says use a 3 way expensive one

the more expensive the better

hey julz

did you test the capacitor? what were the results?

anyone know how to wire these non polarised capacitors to a speaker? do you put 1 on each wire going to the speaker or just 1?

im gonna be using these ones http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=120551082052

Hi,

Just been trying to install my sound kit from exoray today, I have a slight problem. When I wired it up to my exoray gun light kit and made a sound some of the lights would go very faint or not work and others would (without sound kit lights work great). Could this be because the batteries are old and need replacing or have I wired it wrong? Can someone help?

This is how I wired it just to try it out: disconnected the power from gun light kit and plugged it into sound kit, then used aux wire and connected that to where the power would connect on light kit, then plug the phone line in. Thats what I did.

yeah, sounds like the batteries are low on juice. swap them out and you should be good to go.

I have just had an email from exoray, I had it plugged into the gun kit instead of the pack kit, I have now reconnected but now have a problem with the white lights in the vent bit. Power on all gun lighs ok, next switch powers on the other gun lights but with sound they go out. Exoray is trying to find out whats happening. It seems to be happening when I plug phone line in.

id probly say the batterys are low and try a new set but if you had it wired up wrong it could have caused a short somewhere on the sound board..

it possible as the sound kit and light kit share the same power supply

so the vent lights go out when the pack makes a sound? and then what? do they come back on?

if they are going dim like you said id assume its the battery try some new high powerd batterys like duracel
