Grundelesque: The Early Script Prototype by Martin Olson

Grundelesque is one of my favorite EGB episodes I watched featuring a returning villain from RGB. I just stumbled upon the original script written by Martin Olson, one of the writers of the show, on scribd when I was searching the net and when reading it, it was different than when I watched the finished version today; and the characterization of the characters was different, too. Take a look:

I know now that early scripts of EGB episodes exist, but this is the only one I seen so far.

Interesting, getting to read one of the early drafts of the episode… I can’t say I’m terribly impressed with Olson’s writing based on the draft… his characterisation as you said is off, and at one point he obviously changed which characters were present during the scene where Kylie interrogates the Grundel in the basement (Eduardo was evidently swapped out for the more technologically-minded Roland), and forgot to implement the change for several sentences - it makes me wonder if it was going to be Eduardo who she saved near the start of the episode, and thus Eduardo’s nephew Kevin who would end up releasing the original Grundel.

-Olson seems to have missed another character change later in the story (having Egon mention Roland, but Kylie ends up meeting with Garrett).

I must say I prefer the re-writes they performed in the subsequent drafts.

Neat read. Grundel would have been classified as a Class 6 Astral and a hint of where in New York City the Jackson’s live. Seems like Kylie’s cat Pagan might have been Egon’s at some point. Guess they felt the need to insert Janine at the end of the episode. Kind of fun looking for all the differences.

Yeah, makes you wonder what the episode could’ve been with the characterization and all; nice to see a new take on this episode with this finding.
