With all the hoopla surrounding GB3; why is it no one talks about **THE MUSIC **anymore? It had such an integral role in both GB 1 & 2 and I think GB3 would suffer tremendously without that “thing” that is so representative of the feel of Ghostbusters. Hell, the music is practically the fourth Ghostbuster!
Yeah, I know movie soundtracks aren’t what they used to be in the 80’s & 90’s, but you can’t deny that Elmer Bernstein’s other-worldly score in addition to the thematic, sing-a-long draw of Ray Parker Jr.‘s “Ghostbusters.” The sexy-seductive pulse of Mick Smiley’s “Magic,” the Alessi Brothers’ heroic anthem, “Savin’ the Day” and later Bobby Brown’s dancetastic “On Our Own” & Glen Frey’s ode to impending doom, “Flip City” are just some of the tracks that helped elevate this franchise into the stratosphere. Aside from the dead-pan humor & special effects, the music literally gave these films a larger-than-life appeal & let everyone feel as though they were a part of the magic. To me, those soundtracks embodied the spirit of New York City; the working man, feel-good, “something big is coming” effect. It is a feeling that still echoes to this day whenever I see that magnificent skyline.
At any rate, whoever put those soundtracks together (if they’re still alive anyway) definitely needs to return for GB3! Agreed?
Seeing as how GB had a lot of 70s / 80s music, and GB2 had a lot of R&B / Rap from the 80’s (and soon to be 90s)… If they plan on continuing with that trend, Ghostbusters 3 would be full of pop, electronic and dub step.
Just stuff like Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga, Skrillex and One Direction.
Sadly, I think you’re right, AJ. Personally, I’m not a big fan of most of today’s radio acts. I’m all for the artist if they “get” the Ghostbusters vibe (because it is a feeling) & their song isn’t just some half-ass’d, self-promotional gimmick. The music of those past soundtracks really did work together well & oddly enough, separately. A hard line to walk.
I know! I noticed that typo, tried to go back & correct it and I got this message:
“You are not able to edit the main message of this post. Only the subject.”
I mean, really??? Disable the editing of my own damn topic. Who does that? Do I have to purchase an unlimited editing pass on this thing or what? I am only human.
–And Winston is mah dude!!! :whatever: (note the signature)
I think they should hire someone to rip off Psy, and do a Gagnam/Ghostbusters Style title song.
That way Psy can hire some of Huey Lewis’s lawyers.
Tossing in some kpop will atract the “world” fandom as well
And of course they’ll save the original Ray Parker song for the end credits, to appease the original fans.
End credit Spoiler prediction:
A slow dolly shot down a darkened museum corridor up to a partially covered painting. Proton plasma arcs under the covering, and you can see part of the painting that you can see changes.
And you hear a voiceover of, “I need a child so I might live… again!”
Wow, ghoulishfright. Those are amazing choices. I especially love PumPs. It fits so perfectly! They should have used that for the video game. Speaking of, word was the folks who made the video game contracted a band to write/create a new song for use in the game, but something came up and they were never able to use it. If it’s any good, maybe they should use that for the third flick.
The song that you’re talking about that was commissioned for the game WAS the PumPs song…the problem was that they were not a Sony recording artist, and rather than haggle with an indie label over buying out someone they weren’t interested in really signing, just because the game designers liked the song, Sony decided to toss them aside.
Thanks for the info, Chace! That’s a real shame, since this song would have made an already amazing game that much better. I’m sure there are a ton of annoying issues like that to deal with when making the game.
and this joint by Nicolay (feat. Carlitta Durand) is a few years old, but still sounds & feels as good as it did when I first heard it in 2009. That beat, those 80’s-inspired synth chords; has an old school, but contemporary feel to it.
