Hi! Been lurking for a while and finally joined up.
43 yrs old, live in the SF Bay Area, do software for a living. I’ve been a GB fan for a long time, and have wanted to make my own equipment and uniform for about a decade now, but never got around to it (or had a proper workshop). Made an aborted attempt last fall to create a proton pack, and have now decided to make a real effort at it. Trying to get my 'tween daughter interesting in helping out, but she’s not very keen on sanding…
So I’m making a scratch build proton pack, mostly out of MDF, with some basswood and birch plywood in a few places for strength. So far so good – I’ve got most of the boxes made, and can now do the detail work. Still not sure how I’m going to scratch build the bumper…
I’m planning on making it fairly close to accurate measurements, but will not worry too much about exact detail parts for now (like Legris elbows) and replace those later as I stumble across the right parts. HSC Electronics in Sunnyvale had the old Dale resistors, so I will be using those.
Thanks for all the great info, plans, photos, etc on the site – it’s really amazing.
