Hey there fellow Ghostbusters fans! I recently found this forum while looking for costume ideas for this year’s Halloween, and Ghostbusters being one of my all time favorite movies, I stumbled upon here! I’ve been lurking for a while, trying to get a good bearing on what an initial uniform needs to look authentic and cool (mostly what to buy like boots, patches, accessories, etc.) I’m pretty late on the train and will be pushing the 31st deadline, but hopefully I’ll have all my pieces for a bare bones uniform to show up to college/work in.
Anyways, I just thought I should make an account and get a little bit more into the community since lurking doesn’t get you anywhere when you have to ask the hard questions like “should I buy from this person?” Thanks for having me!
Well for right now since Halloween is a week away, I’m just going to have a few fobs on the belt and that’s it. The tubing and dye I found at the local Home Depot and Joann Fabric, with the port on its way along with the patches. Probably for the best to keep it minimalist since I’ll be hefting my backpack around college that day.
After Halloween, though, I’ll be looking to flesh out the belt. I saw that Matty still sells the PKE meter and there are MT500s all over eBay for pretty cheap so I should have no problem there. I’m more concerned about the gizmo and I’ve glimpsed that there may be a parts set to build offered by a forum goer (not 100% here), as well as some more accurate fobs and some really nice leather cases as I’ve seen so far. Was also thinking about going the black MagLite route as well, since I’m not too big a fan of the GB:VG flashlight (even though I love that game to death!), but I haven’t seen the leather holster for the C-cell around so I’ll probably have to make one.
Either way, I’m really excited for this project! It was kind of last minute and based on impulse, but the community looks great and IMO better than the Halo crowd, which was the other route I was originally going to take a couple of months ago.
Everything is pretty much finished, except I didn’t get to dye anything and made the mistake of buying a Rothco flight suit from the local surplus store. My boots never went through, either, so I’ll be stuck with some camo hunting boots. Good thing its not a convention! Looking forward to strutting my suit around, even if it is off-color. This was really fun just setting up the suit, I won’t have a problem doing a second, more accurate one with a Nomex.
