Okay so I went the other day and got myself a flight suit that was perfect for my waist and chest. It looks ok, but it is pretty baggy. I know the leg part is ok cause it will be tucked into the boots, but for the sleeves it looks really baggy. I have looked around the net and when I was looking for female flightsuits before buying the one I have now I saw a tutorial for fitting a flightsuit for women. If anyone has something to help me on how to hem the sleeves or make them look better than fitting a bag over myself it would be a great help.
Also need some advice about boots and where to get the belt.
The boots I was looking at when at the mall cost almost $100. I am trying to get within what I have and that was too much. I was suggested walmart, so today I went there and looked. All I saw were men boots and I dunno what size I would be in men’s boot sizes, but I saw some good looking boots, just think they would be too big for me. I could try other places around..maybe the walmart here just doesn’t have female boots (it doesn’t have a lot of what the other walmarts have) I need advice on where I should go to for some cheaper type boots to where I am not spending all my money on.
As for the belt I saw one at J.C. Penny for like $18 (which I could see the original price was$16..they marked it up for some reason) but I was wondering for female should I have a smaller belt to the suit since it was a bit skinnier made type? Unlike the real pistol belts which are a lot bigger, these ones were made for women. I guess makes us more fashionable. Not sure, but which would be better, to be fashionable and get the smaller one or get the usual GB one?
Try Academy Sports. Check the Brazos Brand boot. $29.99. They also have boots with a side zipper. I think those are $40. I use them for work and they are pretty comfortable.
Belt- go with the pistol belt, I would think it was fully adjustable and be able to make it work. (One size fits everybody)
Uniform- Wont the arm bands cut down on the baggy sleeves?
ahh thanks and well I got some boots from my mom (even though they are brown and go to my ankles it will work for now till I want to make it more accurate).
I got a good pistol belt from online just a few moment ago. Well ordered it anyways. I hope it gets here in time.
I thought that might work. When I get the arm things I will see if it works, which yes it should work. well thanks for the help about it. Hopefully sometime I will get the boots sometime soon, just it will wok for one con and I will work on it when I can get some money to do stuff.
I got my boots from Big 5 Sporting for around $35 or so. They also double as my Stargate Uniform as well. I’d check Big 5 if you have it in your area as they are always having sales on shoes & boots.
You can just buy some used some Corcoran jump boots on eBay like some of us guys did. Take your shoe size and subtract 1.5 from it and that’ll be your size in a men’s. (Ex. US women’s 10 = US men’s 8.5) That should take care of any major boot problems you may have.
I would like to say to just get your arms and whatever else is too loose helmed at a tailor’s, as I couldn’t find a decent cheap source of lady flightsuits anywhere. If I do find anything useful I’ll be sure to post it for here for you.
well I found that using a flight suit for 46 short to be useful for me even though it is a little long (I am 5’1’ or so and have a 41" waistline)..so maybe if they have a size 50 short or regular I would try that. Either that or do a two piece of it. The belt should cover it up pretty well.
Oh so my boot size in mens would be a 5? (have 7.5 in womens shoe size) well if they have that size here might help since I am running short on time. (only a week till I gotta leave..YIKES!)
as it is right now I have my boots for now, stitching on the patches, and got myself a dollar rubber gloves from dollar tree. I still am waiting for my belt to come in (I really am starting to panic about it). I need to get myself some pads..am thinking the walmart ones could do since they are $8 or so (granted they are not the same color, but better than paying $16 on ebay..am I right?) I hate rush jobs on costumes…ugh!
well gotta get stitching and hope to have it finished before I leave the house next week.
If you get walmart pads, buy a can of gray paint primer as well.
Put down papers outside, and spray them from 3 feet away. You don;lt want a think saturated coat, you just want to grey them up a little.
Alternatly, you can also buy black rit dye, put it in a pan on the stove, and cook your pads in it for a bit. Remember they will dry lighter then they look wet.
Also, on the elbow pads, keep in mind you’ll want to trim and hem the material above and below the actual pad.. too much will cut off your circulation.
Check the elbow pad thread at the top of this forum.. I had pads shipped here from that ebay person in less then a week, and those are the movie accurate ones as well.
It said on the one he was selling it took 5-10 days to get the pads in the mail. i would have gotten those ones since well they are more accurate than the ones I decided on. I know they aren’t movie accurate, but I thought they looked pretty cool. Probably gonna be shot for getting these ones seeing they are a bit more expensive than the ones at walmart.
here’s a pic of them
I know i should have went with the walmart ones, but I ran around all day yesterday to find some different ones. I went through finding the sports stores, getting lost for an hour, and getting these…i know they aren’t screen accurate, but i liked how they looked.
I dunno if i should take them back or keep them…maybe I just should get the walmart ones and go with that..what does everyone think?
i know..i should have gotten them weeks ago…but it’s kinda too late for getting it before Tuesday since Monday is a holiday.
Either that or i could get them shipped to my bf’s address. I am staying there. I just feel so bleh..I was trying to get something that didn’t have the ridges on sideways…oh well maybe for Halloween i will get those ones.
OMG! Just seconds ago I got the belt I ordered. It fits perfect! Now for dying it grey.
