so i want to build a proton pack but i cant find a list of what i need i found the blue prints so if some one can help me i would be so great full

This should get you started, but most people on here can help you out a great deal. I’m currently neck deep in my first pack build and I’m just to the point where I’ll be vacuu-forming some shells for me and the wife (and a couple of friends). Gareee has a great budget thread if you need to build on the cheap and there are mounds of great builds around here.
This gets to something that’s been nagging me for a while, as I hunt down all sorts of info for my first pack build:
Why isn’t this sort of info in pages under Home > Equipment > Proton Pack, in addition to being in the forums?
I realize that it’s stickied, or people can use search, but really, the purpose of a forum is asking questions and hashing out the answers. They’re really not that good for finding answers that have been solved for quite a while – you’ve got to read through very long threads, and keep track of all the changes in answers and various opinions and so forth.
Once a fair consensus is reached on an issue, the canonical answer ought to be moved to a page outside the forums, in sort of the ‘wiki’ section of the site. At that point it’s the answer, and probably only needs to be discussed or modified very rarely. I’d like to see () pages for the comprehensive parts list, major parts, part sources, fabrication/painting/sanding techniques, etc.(). (actually I have posted some limited information, so maybe I’m not totally a leech…)
Does this ever happen on GBfans? Is there a lack-of-time issue? Impossible to agreement on the canonical answer?

Thing is, there are so many build possibilities with so many different people’s options, the best place for that info is right here, in the forum.
Shell packs are all pretty much the same… many parts are located in the classifieds or the store here, and anything not film accurate is all custom created or substituted here by the varying builds in the forums.
Thing is its a LOT of information.
You’ve got a few different types of pack makers as well…
the 100% accurate resin shell/parts guys
the semi-100% accurate scratch build guys
and the not as accurate, make it with what you got.. guys.
there is not really a right or wrong way.
some of the stuff I have used can’t be found in any guides.. it was just things I picked up and was like “hey, I could use that for this”
There’s too many different items that can be stand ins for parts, depending on how accurate you want it.
Like today at walmart I bought some hotwheels tracks for my bumper..
most people would have skipped over them because they have “arrows” cut out of them. But, standing there in the aisle I was calculating easy ways to cover them up, and went ahead and bought them.
I bought a light today as well, that I think is going to work amazingly, that noone else I have seen has mentioned. I will show some pics/video when I get it rigged up. It was the only lights I could find that did more than just blink.. mine stay still, blink, chase, follow, flash, strobe.. etc. they run on 2 AA batteries.
accurate pack - stephans plans, venkmans plans.. and the parts list on this site and online resin shell sellers
creative pack - take ideas from those of us who have done them already or figure out your own. For example.. Garee and his electrical boxes..
creativeness is key.
I’d be interested in what light you uncovered…
as soon as I get it rigged up in my cyclotron I will post pics. It has 5 red leds in it, and my son seems to love it and its extremely bright.
I’m no electrician, and there is a small button on it that controls the different settings. I’m gonna take the light apart and seperate the bulbs, and see if my father in law.. (who is an electrical guy) can rig it to a switch so I can turn it on and change the settings from outside the pack.
Shouldn’t be too awful hard to do.. just connect the wires from the current switch to a new one, with longer wires, and a new switch

You’re right about fabrication techniques – there are lots of different possibilities there. Even there though, it might be possible to narrow down some fairly definitive how-tos and move them out of the forums (forae?) – such as painting, weathering, resin casting, etc.
But some of the other information is really related to the original props themselves, not how we fabricate them. There are all sorts of questions that a newb would have about the design of the pack, that currently have to be answered by looking through the forums or carefully examining reference photos or blueprints. Things like:
- A full component list (not a parts list, which is how you create the components)
- How many hoses of each color? Diameter and approximate length?
- How many fittings of each type?
- How are the movie packs attached to the ALICE frame?
- What’s the difference between GB I and GB II packs? And GB I packs reused in GB II?
- What do the switches on the gun do, and what’s the lighting pattern on the pack and gun?
- Additional measurements that are not in any of the blueprints/plans
We’ve already got some pages that address this type of information under Home > Equipment > Proton Pack, I’m just talking about expanding it.

I’m proud to admit my scratch pack is semi 100%. It’s impossible to get everything perfectly accurate. You’d have to match all the materials exactly (is that possible 25 years later? All we can do is come as close as time has allowed.), and for most folks, as long as it looks the same who needs 100% anyway!
