Does anyone rember the Hi-C boxes with slimer on them. I used to make my mom buy those for me just because it had slimer on it. And i loved the way they tasted. Slimer was on the box for a really long time.
Go and hunt down some Hi-C “Shoutin’ Orange Tangergreen” ![]()
It’s Ecto Cooler without the Slimer and with the color removed, but the taste is still the same.
nice, thanks. I was wondering what it was now
Teliwhy, do they even make the Tangergreen flavor anymore? I thought the closest you could get is Orange Lavaburst
I know they’ve made it as recently as a year ago. They don’t sell it here, though, I found it in a grocery store in Atlanta on a trip last year, with an expiration date of a few months later.
I’m reasonably sure it’s still out there, but it’s rare.
Orange Lavaburst just doesn’t taste at all like Ecto Cooler to me, though. :sigh:
Actually, it may have been longer than I thought since I’ve seen it. According to Wikipedia, Shoutin’ Orange Tangergreen was renamed to Crazy Citrus Cooler in 2006, then discontinued in 2007.
There go my chances of hunting down a few last boxes, I suppose. ![]()
I loved ecto-cooler, so if they’ve gotten rid of it’s “offspring” that’s just a shame. I miss the old toothpaste that had slimer on it as well…I think it was from crest, I’d have to look it up again. Was green with a nice bubblegum flavor to it (have an almost empty tube of it back at home).
Ecto-Cooler was so refreshing. I certainly miss the good ol days
a youtube commercial for anyone interested! ![]()

It used to be my drink of choice when my parents packed me a lunch…in my RGB lunchbox :angryvigo:
I don’t remember a lot about Ecto Cooler in terms of taste, but I do remember the Ghostbusters stencil that came shrink wrapped to some of the larger packages. It was green (obviously) and had very rough outlines of two Ghostbusters and Slimer. In addition to only vaguely resembling what they were supposed to, the outlines were too tiny for all but the sharpest pencils to trace. I had 2 or 3 of them, it seems.
Ecto Cooler was still available in my area around 95-96, I think. I remember seeing a package of it in someone else’s cart at Wal-Mart and was amazed that people were still buying the stuff.
I remember the taste very much, and I miss it so…
Mmm I loved that stuff. It was discontinued in 1997. I know this because, Ill have to admit, there is a box of it still frozen in my freezer. Im suprised no one has thrown it away but it still remains there with an expiration date of August 1997. I would be surprised if the kids getting that in their lunch box at school back then would have even know who slimer was.
maybe the game will bring the ecto-cooler back. Lets all have a moment of silence so that we can pray for that or what ever you believe in…lol
I LOVED Ecto-Cooler. I mean, not only was it awesome that it had Slimer on it, but it was also really tasty. It was one of the best Hi-C flavors. I was so sad when they stopped making it. I think it may still be available in a different name like some of you said, but it just isn’t the same. I used to bring Ecto-Cooler in my lunch at school every day. Slimer would be waiting for me in my lunch box each day. LOL!
I also had some of that, too. It was great and my mom brought it for us when we were young. ![]()
I still have a few full boxes of ecto cooler…ok technically shoutn’ orange tangeren green.

Wikipedia’s article about Hi-C has a pretty interesting section about Ecto Cooler. Apparently the flavor itself hung around until 2001, but Slimer got the boot in 1997. It says that even now, if you buy the flavor that replaced Ecto Cooler, your receipt will still say ecto cool.
I’m almost tempted to try that out on tonight’s weekly grocery trip to Wal-Mart…
Did you read the article completely? The drink discountinued in 2007, so you can’t find it, as much as I tried the year before.
But the same thing happened to me too, I bought a few cartoons of it and the check-out screen said Ecto Cool. ![]()
I did, but that bit at the end about it being discontinued in 2007 has been added since I made my last post. Gotta love the shifting sands of Wikipedia…
FYI..
it hasn’t been discontinued.. at least in 2007. I bought some a few months ago at this discount grocery store in the 'hood.
