Pretty sure those are Scoopy’s Cups.

Not the same box, but I’m certain that’s the same nightmare fueling clown mascot from the box.

Great! Thanks for the info on the arcade game. I have now collected a bunch of images from around the internet and saved them all on my Facebook albums. I may work on a diorama-sized printed version of the game, scaled to the Mattel figures, just for fun.
Also, I noticed last night that there’s a slight continuity error in this scene… when Egon microwaves the mood slime and takes it over to the table, you can see a Dustbuster atop the fridge, in front of a First Aid Kit.
But when Egon goes to fetch the ‘ordinary household toaster’ from the kitchenette, the Dustbuster has disappeared!
Slimer must have stolen it while their attention was on the mood slime.
And a few moments later, this poster in the background kept catching my eye.

At the very end of the scene, when they grab Venkman for 'lobotomy time', you can just make out the lettering "the preferred hotel".
So look what I found in a google search!

It's not the same exact image, as you can tell by the upper area and the price listed, but it's a good tool for making out some of the other text.
Alex
That has always cracked me up.
And here’s another little thing about that scene. In the opening moments, under the World of the Psychic theme music, Venkman seems to be telling them a story during the break… an anecdote that I always felt needed to be elaborated upon!
“This G.I. [unintelligible] he would wash their hair with their own urine and their father encouraged them. Hi, and welcome back to World of the Psychic. I’m Peter Venkman…”
Here's another detail that just caught my eye. When Slimer and Louis see each other for the first time, there's a book on Louis' desk that ruffles slightly in the wind of Slimer's exit.

At first, I thought it might be 'The Prophet' by Kahlil Gibran, a book that my mother had prominently displayed in her home for many years, which also had a bold graphic cover of a man's face against white.

But once I saw it again, I could tell it didn't match.
As luck would have it, this misidentification accidentally got me close to the real title, and after some fuzzy-logic browsing around online, I now believe it to be this book:

Came out in 1985.
Well, okay, I found something else cool for you.
Check out the magazine that the security guard is reading.
I thought it looked familiar, so I dug up this image from YourProps.com :
This is a prop belonging to our very own ZedR, and in the description he said it was made for the montage, but unused. He also states that an alternate version was made which said ‘Ghostbusters Save Mayor’.
I think the one seen in the movie is the Mayor version.
I messaged ZedR a little while ago about seeing it in the guard’s hand, and he said “Good eye!” and commented that the back of the magazine on-screen even matches the prop(s). He said the ‘GB’s Save Mayor’ version is on display at the Sony Lobby.

The photo used for the magazine cover was taken during filming of the first movie. Can’t remember where I found this image, but it was somewhere online a few months ago:
Alex
That picture was taken during the time they were filming the lost parking ticket scene. If you notice the sniffer tower, it’s angled down and to where the metermaid would have been standing.
holy crap! mind=blown!!!
Back in the days, that GB2 cover was my only reference for building my very first thrower at the start of the 90s
You and me both!
You are awesome, Alex!! Just…just go ahead and write Making Ghostbusters II. ![]()
Well, it’s not a metermaid, it’s a male uniformed cop, but otherwise you’re correct.

Also taken at the same time, according to SpookCentral, was the TIME magazine cover from the montage.

GOOD EYE! Thanks for posting!
I’ve had a copy of that cover for ages… never noticed it at all in the film. There were quite a few magazine/newspapers mocked up for the movie— a few are framed behind Janine’s desk. I’m pretty sure all of the framed newspapers/magazines at Venkman’s loft are from the first film.
I wanna say that I have either two or three more, aside from the “JUDGE/STAR” cover. They pop up at auctions from time to time.
…and good research on the set dressing! I was acquainted with one of the set dressers on GB2-- cool dude. He had some awesome ‘behind the scenes’ shots that I need to dig up.
I’d love to see any of the pics you dig up, of the set AND of the magazines.
Heh heh… Funny you should mention that!
I have just been assembling some collages of screen-caps to try to get a better sense of what his apartment looks like.
This was the first one… I used three or four frames to ‘paint out’ Dana and Peter.
Then, I did the same thing to this other section of the apartment.
Then, yet another section, as the camera panned with them to the bedroom.
And then it occurred to me I could combine all three into one long ‘collage of collages’.
You can sort of see the magazine covers from the first film’s montage, framed on that one wall below half of a mounted fish, above the cabinet with all the papers and filing boxes.
But a better glimpse of them is from this angle…
Now, I know it’s really hard to focus on anything other than Sigourney Weaver’s gorgeous face, eyes, lips, or bare shoulders (especially when she sits down suggestively) but believe it or not, there is actually a set wall with nice continuity-to-the-first-film set-dressing behind her!
You can see the New York Post cover at left. http://sphotos-a.■■.fbcdn.net/hphotos-prn1/417590_262456293867941_1646666990_n.jpg

And Time cover at right. http://sphotos-a.■■.fbcdn.net/hphotos-prn1/563508_262456330534604_869882237_n.jpg
Here are some detail shots. Venkman's Statue of Liberty collection consists of a torch/hand lamp and three smaller figurines. I call the torch thing a lamp because the flames are going the wrong direction, which suggests it's removable to replace a bulb. Shrug.

Tacked to the cabinet is a Yankees pennant, and leaned against the wall is a Ouija board.

Pennant rotated.

Ouija board rotated. FYI, the name Ouija comes from the French and German words for 'yes', so 'ouija' means 'yesyes'.

No sign of his box or his planchette.
But I think I found the correct board artwork via Google.

I believe my sisters had this EXACT same version of Ouija.
Wonder where it is now? Maybe up in Mom and Dad's attic. Hmmmm...
Alex
I couldn’t remember where I’d seen the fish from, but it was an earlier shot when Dana first brings Oscar to Peter’s after the bathtub tries to eat him.
Now, I don’t know from fish, but it looks like it could be a marlin.
Or maybe I just want it to be a marlin, because when Bill Murray (as Francis Xavier Cross) tries to lift Karen Allen at the end of Scrooged, he quips “you’re like boating a marlin!”
I made another collage. I used four frames and the clone brush to take Janine out of this scene as much as possible.

You no doubt wonder, "Why?"
Well, firstly, because I could.
And secondly, because I wanted a clear view of the wall behind her.
I had seen this image online last year...

And it made me want to see which magazines went where.
So I touched up the NY Post 'They're Back' image and cropped it.

Then I took the full wall of framed magazine covers.

And tried to place as many as possible.

Still some unaccounted for.
If we call these nine by the same digits as a telephone number-pad, then we know what 3, 4, 5, 7 and 9 are. But we still need 1, 2, 6, and 8.
#1 may or may not be the Star cover. I tend to think it's not.
#2 is mostly all text, and it's large, so it's probably a respectable New York newspaper.
#6 appears to be, and this may be my imagination, another issue of TIME with all four Ghostbusters on the cover.
#8 sort of looks like it's a car magazine, perhaps with the Ecto on the cover?
So if anyone has more 'unused' GB2 magazine props, please share them! I'd love to see how well I'm reading in to the pixels, LOL.
Alex
Before we leave Peter’s apartment, I thought I’d toss in something I noticed a couple of months back (see kids, even after 23 years and hundreds of viewings, you can always learn something new about Ghostbusters.)

Excellent work Alex - the Nostrodamus book was a killer spot.
[edit] really, nobody is giving karma to Alex’s posts? boooo.
I’ve always been curious about the creepy dog statue:

Good catch on the lamp, castewar. I never would have connected a prop from one movie to the other like that. Wow!
And holy crap, jackdoud… I was in the middle of posting about the dog and when I switched to full editor to add a pic, it said a new reply had been added… and it was someone else talking about the same prop at the same time!

But I don’t think it’s a statue. It looks like a taxidermied dog with a book or VHS tape in its mouth.

That’s even weirder than a hairless pet.
But among all his eclectic furnishings, the dog does sort of go with the turtle and the ‘marlin’ spiked to the wall.

Also caught this 1978 "Yankee Fever - Catch It" poster while I was pretty much step-framing through all the Peter's apartment scenes:

And then found the same poster currently on eBay for $50.

Too rich for my blood, but I nabbed all five of their photos of it.
Alex
My guess is it’s semi-morbid joke on Venkman’s part and it’s got a newspaper in its mouth which is why it’s by the door.
The Liberty torch thing IS definitely a lamp. And surprisingly enough, so is the wooden mailbox-like thing.

More retouched frames… I painted out Louis and Janine.

And then, for no real reason, I painted out the ashtray that Louis kicks over when he is talking to Dana.

Now here's something I *didn't* miss. I spotted this detail on opening day of GB2, according to a little notepad that I carried with me to the theatre to jot such things down.
I found the notepad last year and one thing it said was "Casper in fish tank".

And it does kinda look like a Casper the friendly ghost toy is in Venkman's aquarium.
But from a different angle...

It looks like it might be a seated Buddha.
Pretty subjective.
Alex
1- LIFE magazine mock up-- the pic is from a montage shot of the GBs running down the street.
6- TIME, with a shot of the GBs in santa hats from the NYC shoot.

8- MOTOR TREND–upper photo looks like the night promo shot E1A outside of the firehouse… lower photo looks like a promo shoot from the NYC shoot. (cool bit–earlier drafts of the GB1 script mention a MOTOR TREND magazine in the montage with the Ectomobile on the cover)
Wow, Thanks for adding that info, I’m frankly amazed that I was right about that being a TIME cover with four Ghostbusters.
Would LOVE to see pics of the magazine mockups if anyone has them!
Alex
I never seen that bottom image of 1a, sweet!
