So first off please forgive me if a topic like this has been posted in the past. I did a search and couldn’t find a thread like it. Also forgive me if its not in the right section. Anyway…
So I was thinking about it recently and I just got to wondering, how did you guys find this magical site known as GB fans-protoncharging.com? I’m bored as all hell and have some time to kill so I figured Id right my little story for anyone who would care to read.
Funny thing is, I think this site is my earliest memory of the internet. We got our fist computer in 1997 (I know this becuase my first game was lego island) and got the internet about a year later. Now I cant date When I first found the site but I can say I found protoncharging.com while looking for ways to build my own proton pack. I was about 11 or 12 at the time so I was told to never put my name on ANYTHING on the internet (gotta love moms). This is why I never joined the first time around. I also just never had the time, money, or know how to go about such a task. I also remember at the time I think it was norms versions 1 and 2 plans were the only thing out there. I ended up settling for my RGB pack that year and a throw away jumpsuit.
Long story short, the years rolled by, school, work, and relationships took over and then I graduated high school and left for the marines. I came home about a year later as a weekend warrior and got a full time job. About that time I thought of finally getting what everyone of us has dreamed of…a proton pack. So I went back to this page and saw a world of progress had been made in my 10+ years away and all I can say is thank god. The hobby is so much more easy and accessible now and helped me put together my 1st pack.
Like I said I have no idea why this idea just hit me but I’m interested. Id also like to hear from some of the vets and the ones that laid the groundwork so fans like me could finally have some sweet GB gear. I’m sure there’s going to be a lot of answers that just say “google” but that’s cool too. Do we have a wiki? If not maybe one could spawn from this haha. Seems I’m ranting again, I think I need to fill the rest of my time with some Bad company 2
Google search last Halloween for “proton pack plans”. I was originally inspired by seeing the AZ guys at the San Diego Comic Con in '08 but after the Video Game came out I knew I had to build a pack.
I found it a little tepid with a slight aftertaste of lime. I probably won’t order another one but I would like to know more about this ProtonCharging.com you speak of. Has the bartender made them before? Are they any good?
I used to be a member of AJ’s old site, the Prop Archive… when he built the new version I migrated over to it… and then the new version of the 'Archive became GBFans, and I stayed.
I found this one. There was one other okay one, but don’t recall it now.
So after looking in that section, started looking around at plans, members props.
And I was like. Wow.
So yah, been on here since.
That was just last year though, I just joined this year. But been a creeper since… Around… I donno September or so. ima start prop building with a found buddy on here this month or next month.
I was googling to start my proton pack build, found out Colin’s site (MMM) contacted him and asked him about the basics of pack building. After answering my 10,000 questions, he told me about this site. Been visiting daily ever since. Thanks man!
I was active on Bill Emkow’s site for quite awhile; real life intervened shortly after that site closed down and I just forgot about it. A number of years later I went hunting for some prop plans, found GBProps and then started the longest pack build in history (5 years later and I’m just getting started, my build fund was raided by a family member).
