Ok, I tried the razor method, but it laughed in my face. Now I come for some aid. I have McDavid knee and elbow pads. They have this plastic-ish or vinyl label for the logo. Costume reference here:
The kneepads I am trying to modify are
found on Mcdavid’s website. Most sports gear has a similar type of logo, as I made a Sub Zero costume a while back, and ran into the same problem…but solved it by sharpie-ing the logo away. They were leg shinguards so it wasn’t a big deal. These are more visible, and I’d like to do a better job on them.
Any ideas on how to remove these logos? Would an extremely hot water work? How about some kind of chemical or remover from a retail store? Or just good old patience, and a decent kind of razor… Thanks a bunch.
Harry . . . Your flight suit is looking good ,but why the knee pads at all. . . A little to much but hey its your costume. . As far as the labels go. . Try using an old iron ,after all heat is how there aplied in the first place. . Use an old Iron you dont care about as the label my stick and burn if you not careful
Actually, I used an Iron not too long ago today, and figured it out. It practically liquified the sticky logo into mush…and with a dulled razor, I scraped it off. And the knee pads are because I tend to be a “stunt” ghostbuster, and I’ll take a knee at a convention, or public event, quite often. Otherwise, for just hanging out and walking around, it’s no pads for the knee. Those are just for the “active” days chasing ghosts. More of a personal choice, really. I just know when I do something, I’ve got energy and act a fool, and in this case, can get away with knee pads because they “could” be part of the uniform.
There were a lot of different modified picks I made for this costume. I’m not a strong believer in 100% through and through screen accurate costumes. It’s MY costume. If I were to be a ghostbuster, this is how I’d wear it. Look at the difference between the 4 main GB’s as it is, and costume wear. Venkman doesn’t wear the gloves half the time, or have half the crap on his belt, and there are other changes and differences too. Lewis wore earmuffs… It’s cold outside.
So, I did the Knee pads only for recreational and activity purposes. I also have different boots for that reason…they’re not the shiny military style you’d see on screen, but in fact some new, awesome jump boots that have a tennis shoe feel to them, while still being as epic as necessary.
But again, thanks Skully for your input and assistance. Much appreciated!
Thanks. Rigged it out of random parts from home depot. I’d say not too bad. I’ve painted it since, as well as colored the hose. I may post a new pic later. Working on ecto goggles and proton pack soon.
